A clip of a car jumping into the air is trending online, as the road beneath it warped significantly due to intense heat.
Starting from June 20, 2025, summer officially arrived, with Mother Nature ramping up the warmth across numerous U.S. cities.
Nevertheless, a street in Cape Girardeau failed to endure the intense heat and started to crack and emerge from the ground, leading one observer to start recording with their phone.
Despite being open for traffic, a driver got quite the surprise when the road unexpectedly collapsed underneath their vehicle, causing it to soar into the air.
Viral clip shows road suddenly buckle
Based on USA Today’s report, it was a man who captured the video on Sunday, the 22nd of June, after noticing a slight bump on the road that had caught his attention.
He stated that when he returned to capture a side view of vehicles passing over the smaller bump, suddenly the road erupted and elevated more than 18 inches, causing a car to lift off the ground.
According to the Cape Girardeau Police Department, the driver of the recently viral flying car did not report any injuries.
Regarding secure driving and the potential for roadways to buckle due to heat, it is advised that drivers always wear seat belts. If a driver observes anything strange or unusual about the roadway, they should promptly contact their local law enforcement.

As per the National Weather Service’s reports, the location depicted in the video is currently experiencing temperatures as high as 106 degrees Fahrenheit and will remain under a heat advisory until Friday, June 27th.
