As a long-time Marvel comics fan and avid follower of the MCU, I can’t contain my excitement as I witness the expansion of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the upcoming introduction of Adamantium in Captain America: Brave New World. This metal has held a special place in my heart since I first read about it in the comic books, where it has been synonymous with iconic characters such as Captain America’s shield and Wolverine’s indestructible skeleton.
As an avid Marvel fan, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news: Adamantium is making its way into the MCU for the very first time through “Captain America: Brave New World,” and it’s coming from an unexpected corner – The Eternals. For those of you who are deep into Marvel Comics lore, this announcement is a game-changer. While Vibranium has been a staple in the MCU since Captain America’s iconic shield was introduced, its more famous counterpart, Adamantium, had previously been off-limits for use due to licensing issues with other characters.
During Marvel Studios’ major presentation at Comic-Con in San Diego, they discussed the forthcoming Captain America film, titled “Brave New World.” Several intriguing insights were revealed during the panel and trailer preview. One particularly noteworthy announcement was that Adamantium will make its appearance in the MCU.
In Marvel comics, Adamantium stands out as the top science fiction metal. Its uses are extensive in the stories, with Captain America’s shield and Ultron’s body being made from it. However, Adamantium is most famously associated with Wolverine, Marvel’s renowned and lucrative mutant character, whose skeleton is covered in this robust material.
An intriguing point in this introduction is the origin of the discovery. In the 2021 film “The Eternals,” Adamantium is unearthed for the first time in its solidified form, which emerged from the Earth in the South Pacific. This is likely one of, if not, the initial mentions of the Celestial since the movie’s release, with the exception of subtle hints like the reference to “a colossal statue of a man rising out of the ocean” in “She-Hulk.”
As a longtime fan of Marvel Comics, I’ve grown up with the X-Men and their unique band of mutant heroes. For decades, these beloved characters were under the ownership of 20th Century Fox. However, a few years ago, Disney made a move to acquire Marvel Entertainment, bringing the X-Men back into the fold.
Although Deadpool & Wolverine may seem like the beginning of adamantium’s presence in the MCU, it’s important to note that this film isn’t exactly the same as a typical MCU production. Instead, it serves as a connection between Fox and Marvel Studios films, taking place on alternate Earths. The Wolverine depicted in this movie is not the one who will eventually join the MCU. Consequently, Deadpool & Wolverine marks the start of adamantium’s integration into the primary MCU storyline, paving the way for the moment when Marvel Studios introduces a new Wolverine and unleashes his famous “snikt” claws for the first time.
In an exciting new chapter for Captain America: Brave New World, Anthony Mackie portrays Sam Wilson/Captain America. Joining the cast are Giancarlo Esposito, who assumes the role of the Serpent Society’s chief, and Harrison Ford as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross. Catch this thrilling adventure at the cinemas starting February 14, 2025. Share an unforgettable experience with your loved one as Harrison Ford potentially transforms into the Red Hulk on the big screen.
