Capcom Making a Chatacabra an Event Monster Proves It’s Unlucky to Be an Oversized Toad in Monster Hunter Wilds

This month has been particularly challenging for the Chatacabra in Monster Hunter Wilds. Not only was it initially used as the game’s sparring partner, but it looks like things are going to get tougher for it.

Capcom has made the Chaatacabra a central figure in a fresh mission, and this quest essentially motivates hunters to exploit it until there’s none left. The recently introduced Tongue-Tied event takes place from March 11th to 18th, rewarding players with scarce Armor Spheres. Thus, one can only anticipate that the poor Chaatacabra is in for another tough week as players rush to hunt it down.

Capcom is putting the Chatacabra population in danger

Ever since Monster Hunter Wilds was released on February 28, the Chatacabra has faced an almost catastrophic wave of hunting by players, given the game’s staggering sales figure exceeding 8 million copies. It seems safe to say that we, the players, may have pushed it towards extinction in the game.

As a dedicated fan, I find myself face to face with a formidable Tempered Chatacabra, barring my path to a treasure trove of Hard and Advanced Armor Spheres in the “Tongue-Tied” quest!

This mission ties in with last week’s “Kut-Ku Gone Cuckoo,” offering unique headgear material rewards. Both missions are available until March 18, 4:59pm PT / 23:59pm GMT.

One interesting twist is that many players may have shifted their focus to battling different monsters. Yet, Capcom has managed to draw us all back with the Tongue-Tied quest, offering a chance to acquire hard-to-find and precious Hard and Advanced Armor Spheres. Since these items are so scarce and valuable, this event presents an irresistible challenge for hunters.

In the game Monster Hunter Wilds, Armor Spheres are notoriously hard to collect and usually awarded as quest rewards. Advanced Armor Spheres offer 200 upgrade points each, while Hard Armor Spheres grant a whopping 1,000 points. These items play a crucial role in upgrading higher-tier armor sets. As the quest can be replayed before its end date on March 18, players have been persistently farming it to maximize their gear.

Sorry Chatacabra, I need those armor spheres.

Although classified as a Tempered beast for the mission, the Chatacabra doesn’t seem to be causing much dread among players. It has been granted additional health and deals increased damage, but its fundamental attack patterns remain unchanged. Consequently, players can still employ the same strategies against it.

The post-launch content train is already running

As a gamer, I’ve been chuckling and shaking my head at the community’s reactions. Folks on social media platforms like Twitter and Reddit have been having a field day teasing about the Chatacabra’s streak of bad luck, drawing parallels to the infamous Greatest Jagras event in Monster Hunter: World. Despite the jokes, not a single soul has passed up the opportunity for some free upgrade materials that come with this event quest. It seems we all could use a bit of good fortune!

The “Tongue-Tied” mission is an ongoing part of Capcom’s post-launch support for “Monster Hunter Wilds,” featuring weekly event quests and additional DLC. After it concludes on March 18, a fresh batch of event quests like “Ballet in the Rain,” “Sand-Scarred Soul,” and “Like a Fire Hidden by Sand” will take its place, offering unique rewards.

Capcom has announced that a complimentary spring update will feature Mizutsune, a popular monster, along with new content and further event quests. This suggests that post-launch content for “Monster Hunter Rise” could be as robust as it was for “Monster Hunter World”. Here’s hoping the unfortunate Chatacabra gets a break after this update.
