Summary
- Monster Hunter Wilds is mostly what fans expected it to be, but there is a lack of challenge currently.
- That’ll change in April, as Capcom has promised additions “more challenging than Tempered monsters“.
- Fans are trying to figure out what that means, and many are pointing to Arch-Tempered monsters.
Capcom has shared some more details about Monster Hunter Wilds’ next big update, including the fact that it’ll include an addition that’s “more challenging than tempered monsters”.
Late last month, Monster Hunter Wilds finally released and gave us the massive launch that we were all expecting it to have with a consistent Steam player count of one million players throughout a good portion of its first week. While the reception to Wilds has mostly been positive so far (outside of the PC release, that is), there is one main issue.
That is, of course, the lack of challenge and content. Wilds is much more streamlined than any of the other games in the series, which means that veterans are breezing through it without much trouble. Capcom is clearly aware of this problem for long-term fans, as it’s promised something very challenging is on the way.
What Could Be “More Challenging” Than Tempered Monsters?
As pointed out on the Monster Hunter subreddit by Redditor I-am-Nanachi, a recent social media post outlines some of the things coming in April’s update. The most noteworthy addition is an “addition that will prove even more challenging than tempered monsters”, which leaves things pretty vague overall.
In case you’re unfamiliar, Tempered Monsters represent enhanced, stronger variations of the game’s top-tier beasts. At present, they constitute the greatest challenge that Wilds has to provide.
While that certainly sounds exciting for veteran players considering the lack of challenge that Wilds currently faces, it’s not exactly clear what Capcom is referring to here. Over on the Reddit thread, fans are trying to guess what the big new roadblock could be in Wilds, and there are some interesting theories.
Most fans seem to think that Capcom is teasing some kind of new type of Tempered monster, which would likely mean combining some elements. Some of the theories suggested in the thread point to the return of Arch-Tempered monsters from World or perhaps a Frenzy-Tempered monster type, which certainly seems like it’d offer more of a fight for players who have already completed high-rank.
Those suggestions seem a bit obvious, but fans argue that Capcom doesn’t seem like it’s done with Arch-Tempered monsters just yet. It could also be something brand new that we’ve not seen in the series before, but that does raise the question of why it wasn’t included in the first place. Either way, we’ll find out for sure when the update drops in April.
