A character long absent from the main Monster Hunter games is set to return in an upcoming update for Monster Hunter World (Wilds). In a recent video release, Capcom detailed several exciting new features that will be introduced with Title Update 1. Towards the end of the video, they hinted at what players can anticipate from Title Update 2.
During the teaser, there are sounds of water and a glimpse of what appears to be a giant creature’s foot, specifically a Lagiacrus – a type of leviathan monster. Excitement erupted among fans as this monster hasn’t been seen in the series for about ten years, making its return all the more anticipated.
Lagiacrus is coming to Monster Hunter Wilds in Summer 2025
Capcom recently shared a video on YouTube called “Monster Hunter Wilds Highlight Reel“, showcasing all the exciting additions coming to the game with Title Update 1. This update is set for release on April 4, 2025, and includes a brand-new hub area, new armor sets, cosmetic items, and fresh monster encounters.
Fans were already buzzing about the upcoming content, but Capcom really amped up the anticipation by hinting at the comeback of Lagiacrus through Title Update 2. Originally slated to appear in Monster Hunter: World in 2018, this creature was ultimately dropped from the game’s lineup.
It’s clear that there’s more excitement surrounding Lagiacrus than Mizutsune, both set to be introduced in Update 1 for the game. Unfortunately, no specific release date for Update 2 has been given yet, but we know it will arrive during Summer 2025. It appears that Capcom is dedicating a lot of effort to creating new content for Monster Hunter Wilds, which seems to have put a strain on another well-loved Capcom video game in the process.
In the past, the Monster Hunter producer explained that Lagiacrus is a difficult monster to add to the game
Starting with its debut in ‘Monster Hunter 3’, this creature, Lagiacrus, has been featured in a total of four subsequent ‘Monster Hunter’ games: ‘Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate’, ‘Monster Hunter Generations’, and both ‘Monster Hunter Generations’ and ‘Ultimate’ editions. Regrettably, despite initial plans to include it in ‘Monster Hunter World’, the monster was ultimately omitted from the finished game due to complications with its animations.
Back in 2022, Monster Hunter’s producer, Ryozo Tsujimoto, shared with IGN that it was challenging to incorporate Lagiacrus into the game. In his words, he found it particularly tough to do so.
Regrettably, incorporating Lagiacrus in the game can be quite technically challenging due to its unique design. It resembles a snake and its body parts often touch the ground at various instances, giving it an appearance similar to a wriggling, ground-bound monster.
It appears that the developers at Capcom have successfully deciphered the popularity of the Monster Hunter series, as evidenced by a recent poll held on its 20th anniversary. The poll allowed players to vote for their favorite Monster Hunter series monster, with Lagiacrus claiming the third spot, demonstrating that this creature is indeed well-liked among fans.
