Fans of the timeless Dino Crisis series experienced a surge of optimism as Capcom officially re-registered the trademark for this franchise in Japan.
While it’s not definitive that the company will resume this series, it certainly increases the chances of doing so.
- This isn’t the first sign of growing interest in this old brand. In January of this year, Capcom partnered with GOG.com, resulting in the release of the first two installments of the series on this platform. These games were appropriately modified to run easily on modern rigs.
- Meanwhile, last year, fans’ hopes for the revival of this series were awakened by the release of its first installment in the PS Store.
Back in 2018, Capcom secured the rights to the Onimusha franchise by registering its trademark. The following year, fans were treated to a revamped version of the first game titled Onimusha: Warlords. As we speak, there’s an updated edition of the sequel set to hit shelves in just two months. In the pipeline for next year is Onimusha: Way of the Sword, a brand-new chapter in the series. Here’s hoping that Dino Crisis receives a similar revival in the future.

Towards the close of the year, Capcom communicated to investors that they are focusing on resurrecting dormant brands, and as part of this effort, they have released Onimusha: Way of the Sword and continued the story of Okami. Among the possible revivals from their rich archive of classic series, Dino Crisis appears to be a strong candidate.
