The Independence Day celebration in 2025 may have come to an end, but Cookie Jam is continuing its festive spirit! Solving puzzles such as “Red, white, and [blank]”, “Portable cold box”, and “Largest marine mammals” has been a blast so far. Now, here comes another challenge for you. If you’re having trouble with the clue “Author of Declaration of Independence“, I’ve got a hint – think about who penned one of America’s most significant historical documents!
Answer to “Author of Declaration of Independence” in Cookie Jam
The Declaration of Independence was a collaborative effort among numerous individuals, each contributing their thoughts and revisions. Yet, it was one individual, serving as the principal writer, who penned the initial draft and largely defined its phrasing; this key contributor is:
- Author of Declaration of Independence – Jefferson
As a fervent admirer looking back, I find myself reflecting on the momentous occasion when Thomas Jefferson, at the tender age of 33, embarked upon drafting the Declaration of Independence in June of 1776. Guided by the wisdom and insights of his esteemed colleagues, John Adams and Benjamin Franklin, among others, Jefferson played a pivotal role in shaping this monumental document. Despite being younger than most of the Founding Fathers, he left an indelible mark on American history with his eloquent words and unwavering determination.
Instead of being selected due to his oratory abilities, Jefferson stood out more for his writing prowess. Known for his quiet and reserved demeanor, he was highly respected as a talented writer. Notably, John Adams advocated for Jefferson to take the lead on the drafting task. Impressively, it only took him around 17 days to finish this assignment.
As a gamer, I penned down an initial draft, yet the Continental Congress trimmed around a fourth of it, removing parts that were critical of slavery among other things. I didn’t take kindly to these alterations, but I conceded for the sake of maintaining unity among the colonies.

The well-known phrase “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” was actually a rephrase of Locke’s “life, liberty, and property.
