Cannes Film Festival Adds Jennifer Lawrence, Robert Pattinson’s ‘Die, My Love’ and Kristen Stewart’s ‘Chronology of Water’ to 2025 Lineup

The Cannes Film Festival has announced new additions to its lineup. These include Lynne Ramsay’s “Die, My Love,” a suspenseful movie featuring Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson, as well as Kristen Stewart’s “The Chronology of Water” in the Un Certain Regard category, and Ethan Coen’s “Honey Don’t” for the midnight screenings.

Additional films joining the main lineup are “Mother and Child” by Saeed Roustaee (in competition), “Love Me Tender” by Anna Cazenave Cambet, “Un Poeta” by Simón Mesa Soto, and “O Riso E A Faca (Le Rire et le Couteau)” by Pedro Pinho (all in Un Certain Regard). In the premiere section, we have “Renai Saiban” by Kōji Fukada, “Ástin Sem Eftir Er” by Hlynur Pálmason, and “Magalhães” by Lav Diaz. Lastly, “Le Roi Soleil” by Vincent Maël Cardona is part of the midnight screenings.

Following the Cannes Film Festival’s official press conference on April 10, the film “Die, My Love” was shown to the committee. This adaptation of Ariana Harwicz’s first novel by director Ramsay is set in rural America and centers around a woman portrayed by Lawrence, who has just given birth and finds herself consumed by love and madness, while her husband (Pattinson) seems unaware. This film marks Ramsay’s return to the Croisette since he presented the 2017 thriller “You Were Never Really Here,” starring Joaquin Phoenix and winning best screenplay.

This year, Ramsay becomes the seventh female director to have her movie compete, breaking the previous record at the Cannes Film Festival. She joins directors like Mascha Schilinski (“Sound of Falling”), Carla Simón (“Romería”), Kelly Reichardt (“The Mastermind”), Hafsia Herzi (“La Petite Dernière”) and Julia Ducournau (“Alpha”).

This 78th edition of the festival is set to see a significant Hollywood presence. Notable attendees include the main cast of “Die, My Love,” as well as stars such as Tom Cruise for the premiere of “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.” Additionally, Spike Lee’s film “Highest 2 Lowest” will be present with Denzel Washington in attendance. Jodie Foster is also expected, starring in Rebecca Zlotowski’s out-of-competition crime comedy “Vie Privée.” Josh O’Connor, the lead of Kelly Reichardt’s heist movie “The Mastermind” and Oliver Hermanus’ romance “The History of Sound” alongside Paul Mescal, will also be there. The ensemble cast of Aster’s “Eddington,” featuring Joaquin Phoenix, Emma Stone, Pedro Pascal, Austin Butler, is expected to attend as well. Lastly, Anderson’s “The Phoenician Scheme” cast, including Benicio del Toro, Michael Cera, Tom Hanks, Bryan Cranston, Riz Ahmed, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Scarlett Johansson, will grace the event. Interestingly, Johansson is also set to debut her directorial work, “Eleanor the Great,” in the Un Certain Regard section of the festival.

The Cannes Film Festival will take place May 13-24.
