Cannes Film Festival 2025 Releases Lineup

The Cannes Film Festival is back with renewed vigor, and it’s making a significant impact on the American Oscar race. This year, the Palme d’Or winner, Anora, became the second film since 2019 to also win Best Picture at the Oscars (following Parasite). The last movie to achieve this double victory was Marty in 1955. Interestingly, indie distributor Neon has been dominating the past five festivals with films like Parasite, Titane, Triangle of Sadness, Anatomy of a Fall, and now Anora. This year, Neon stands to win again with two potential contenders: Alpha, directed by Julia Ducournau (the director of Titane) and Joachim Trier’s follow-up to The Worst Person in the World, titled Sentimental Value.

In addition to the main lineup, Josh O’Connor can be spotted in two different films: Kelly Reichardt’s art-heist film titled “The Mastermind” and a gay WWI romance movie called “The History of Sound” alongside Paul Mescal. Meanwhile, Tom Cruise is set to premiere “Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning” outside of competition. American cinephiles will also encounter Wes Anderson’s film “The Phoenician Scheme“, as well as works from Richard Linklater (Nouvelle Vague) and Ari Aster (Eddington) within the competitive section. Debuting in “Un Certain Regard” are Scarlett Johansson with her directorial debut “Eleanor the Great” and Harris Dickinson’s film “Urchin“. The festival takes place from May 13th to the 24th, with the complete 2025 Cannes Film Festival lineup provided below.
