Cannes Competition Feature Debut ‘Wild Diamond’ Finds North American Distribution (EXCLUSIVE)

As a devoted cinephile with a deep appreciation for thought-provoking and socially relevant films, I am absolutely thrilled to hear that Agathe Riedinger’s “Wild Diamond” has been acquired by Strand Releasing for North American distribution. Having followed Riedinger’s work since her critically acclaimed 2018 short “Waiting for Jupiter,” I have been eagerly anticipating the release of this powerful and timely feature film.

Agathe Riedinger’s first film, titled “Wild Diamond,” which made its debut at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, has been bought by Strand Releasing for the rights to distribute it in North America.

A widely praised movie recounts the tale of 19-year-old Liane, who experiences meteoric success as a social media sensation and influencer. Her fame reaches new heights when she’s selected for a hit reality TV show called “Miracle Island.”

“Jon Gerrans from Strand Releasing and Agathe Mauruc from Pyramide International are excited to be working on Ms. Riedinger’s first feature. We were captivated by her fresh directorial voice that stood out at the Cannes Film Festival’s main competition. ‘Wild Diamond’ is expected to strike a chord with North American audiences as it explores our fixation and infatuation with popularity on social media,” they shared.

The “Wild Diamond” product has been successfully marketed in the following countries: Baltics, Belgium, Belgium-Netherlands, Brazil, Bulgaria, former Soviet Union, Czech Republic, Denmark, Former Yugoslavia, Germany, Hungary, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Latin America, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Turkey.

“The film ‘Wild Diamond’ builds upon Riedinger’s successful 2018 short, ‘Waiting for Jupiter.’ In an interview with EbMaster prior to the Cannes Film Festival, the director shared her intrigue with reality TV due to its extreme values, spectacle, and excessive focus on women’s bodies. She explained, ‘The entertainment is heavily reliant on women’s physical appearance.’ During production, Riedinger collaborated extensively with non-professional actors, including Malou Khebizi, who portrays the main character and is present in almost every scene of the film.”

As a devoted cinephile, I’ve been eagerly anticipating the release of this long-awaited French production. This masterpiece, which has taken so long to come to fruition, was brought to life by the visionary team of Priscilla Bertin and Judith Nora at Silex Films right here in Paris.

As a film enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that Strand will be bringing a new release to the big screen in the new year, around early 2025. This exciting addition joins their current lineup, which is already packed with intriguing titles. Fatih Akin’s “Rhinegold” promises a captivating journey, Brad Rust Gray’s “I’ll Be Your Mirror” holds the potential to reflect our deepest emotions, and Ray Yeung’s “All Shall Be Well” brings hope for a resolution to complex stories. I can hardly wait!
