As a passionate cricket fan and admirer of resilience, I am absolutely thrilled about the upcoming biopic on Yuvraj Singh‘s life! His journey from a prodigy to a World Cup hero, cancer survivor, and inspiration to millions is nothing short of extraordinary. The fact that Bhushan Kumar, known for backing high-profile projects like “Animal” and “Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior,” is bringing this story to life only adds to my excitement.
The extraordinary life story of cricket star Yuvraj Singh, who rose from gifted prodigy to World Cup champion and ultimately overcame cancer, is being adapted into a feature film.
Indian film production powerhouse, T-Series led by Bhushan Kumar, has announced a movie that delves into the life and career of renowned cricketer Singh. This cinematic piece will highlight Singh’s victories, both on and off the cricket field. Notable producer Bhushan Kumar, who has supported successful projects such as “Animal,” “Drishyam 2,” “Kabir Singh” and “Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior,” is teaming up with Ravi Bhagchandka to bring Singh’s tale to the silver screen. Bhagchandka will collaborate under the banner of 200 Not Out Cinema for co-production. This biopic serves as Bhagchandka’s second endeavor in portraying a cricketer’s life on screen, following the 2017 documentary “Sachin: A Billion Dreams” about Sachin Tendulkar.
At 13 years old, Singh first appeared on the Punjab Under-16 cricket team. In the 2000 Under-19 World Cup, which India emerged victorious from, Singh earned the title of Player of the Tournament and was promoted to the senior squad. Known for his assertive left-handed batting technique and remarkable fielding skills, Singh’s career took off in a big way during India’s successful 2007 T20 World Cup run, where he made history by hitting six consecutive sixes against England’s bowler Stuart Broad. The movie aims to replicate this legendary moment, as well as highlight Singh’s crucial role in India’s 2011 World Cup win, during which he was named Player of the Series.
Yet, Singh’s tale doesn’t stop at his sporting achievements. In the year 2011, he was diagnosed with cancer. His valiant struggle and inspiring comeback to cricket in 2012 mesmerized the Indian populace, further cementing his position as a role model for countless millions. Singh also tasted success in the Indian Premier League (IPL) competition. He declared his retirement from international cricket in 2019.
Kumar expressed: “Yuvraj Singh’s life story is an captivating account of resilience, victory, and passion. His transition from a promising cricket player to a legendary cricketer, and eventually into a true-life hero, is nothing short of inspiring. I am excited to share a tale that deserves to be told and heard on the big screen, and to honor his extraordinary accomplishments.”
Singh stated: “I feel incredibly humbled that my tale will be shared with millions of my supporters worldwide by Bhushan-ji and Ravi. Cricket has always been my greatest passion and the driving force behind me during all the ups and downs. I pray this movie encourages others to face their own difficulties and chase their dreams with undying determination.”
Bhagchandka stated: “Yuvraj has been a cherished friend for quite some time now. I feel privileged that he chose us to transform his remarkable cricketing odyssey into a cinematic adventure. Yuvraj isn’t merely a world champion but a true legend in every respect.”
The director and cast on the project is being finalized.
