A character from a canceled Marvel television show is rumored to return in Strange Academy.
The intriguing series titled “Strange Academy,” set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is currently under development, but unfortunately, a release date has yet to be announced. In the Marvel Comics world, this storyline follows Doctor Strange as he establishes an institution for educating young individuals in the craft of magic and sorcery.
Who is rumored to return in Strange Academy?
Based on reports from Alex Perez at The Cosmic Circus, it’s being suggested that Nico Minoru may make an appearance in the upcoming live-action series called Strange Academy.
Born by Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona, Nico is a character predominantly recognized from Marvel’s Runaways series. She is the child of two super-powered villains and possesses a knack for magic. Notably, she wields a magical staff known as the Staff of One, which allows her to manipulate magic.
In the “Runaways” TV series that aired in 2017 and ran for three seasons before it was discontinued, the character Nico was originally portrayed by Lyrica Okano.
It’s uncertain if Marvel plans to have a new actress play Nico, or if they might ask Gaelen Okano to return for the role. Online discussions are divided about whether Runaways belongs in the MCU, as while there are references to MCU events, it doesn’t seem to be directly connected to the larger shared universe.
In simpler terms, this implies that the series shares a similarity with the Marvel Netflix shows as Marvel Studios can establish certain parts of it as official events and modify other aspects. Since the show’s viewership decreased after its initial season, there might be a reason to recast Nico; however, her portrayal was highly appreciated by many, and she reprised her role as the character in the 2022 Marvel’s Midnight Suns video game, for which she provided the voice.
In the animated adaptation of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man titled “another reality,” Grace Song provided the voice for this character.
