Canal+ Group, Owner of ‘Paddington’ Producer Studiocanal, to Enter London Stock Exchange After Vivendi Shareholders Approve Spinoff

As a seasoned movie buff with decades spent dissecting the intricacies of Hollywood and global cinema, I find myself captivated by this latest move from Vivendi. The Paris-based media titan is about to embark on a fresh chapter, as its crown jewel, Canal+ Group, prepares for a grand entrance at the London Stock Exchange.

Based in Paris, the multimedia corporation Vivendi, is on the verge of ushering in a new chapter as its main pay TV brand, Canal+ Group, prepares to debut on the London Stock Exchange.

On December 16th, it has been decided (at Vivendi’s shareholder meeting chaired by Yannick Bolloré) that Canal+ Group, the parent company of Studiocanal (the producer of “Paddington”), will be listed separately as part of a previously approved spinoff project.

The project, receiving an overwhelming 97.5% approval, plans to separate Canal+ from Vivendi, alongside Havas and the Louis Hachette Group. Both entities are set to list independently: Havas in Amsterdam, while the Louis Hachette Group will be listed in Paris.

Louis Hachette Group consolidates Vivendi’s 66.53% ownership of Lagardère along with the complete control of Prisma Media.

Bolloré expressed his joy over the rapid acceptance of our spin-off venture, stating that its success is clear evidence of our shareholders’ robust backing for this significant business move.

The Supervisory Board extends heartfelt gratitude to Arnaud de Puyfontaine, the entire Management Board, the teams working on this project, our advisors, and our shareholders for their faith in us. We believe that this new phase for Canal+, Havas, and Louis Hachette Group will be fruitful and generate value for everyone involved,” Bolloré concluded.

The strategy, initially unveiled in December 2023, intends to tackle the issue known as “conglomerate discount” (where a diverse group is undervalued compared to the total worth of each individual part). This move aims to create opportunities for the enhancement of value within its subsidiaries.
