The Istanbul-based company, Madd Entertainment, has unveiled the global preview for the English-speaking drama titled “El Turco.” This movie features renowned Turkish actor Can Yaman portraying an iconic historical figure who serves as a connection between Turkey and the wider Western world.
Beginning today, March 21st, the much-awaited six-episode series titled “El Turco” is debuting across various platforms worldwide. The show boasts a talented ensemble of actors from nine distinct countries and blends historical events, action-packed adventure, and romantic intrigue. Here’s a glimpse:
– In Romania, it will be available on Voyo.
– In Russia, viewers can catch it on IVI.
– Brazilian audiences can enjoy it on Globoplay.
A sneak peek of ten minutes is scheduled to air today on Mediaset Infinity in Italy, with the full release date yet to be announced. It will then premiere on March 23rd on Teleonce in Honduras and on Gaín in Turkey on April 2nd. The series will make its debut on Starz in the MENA region on April 18th. As for other international air dates, they are still under consideration.
In the Turkish series “El Turco,” produced by Ay Yapim, the character Yaman portrays Hasan Balaban, a 17th-century Ottoman soldier who was injured during Turkey’s campaign to capture Vienna in 1683. This battle resulted in his being transported approximately 200 kilometers to the Italian Alpine village of Moena. The villagers affectionately dubbed him “El Turco.” He then led the townsfolk in a rebellion against unjust taxes, earning him local hero status due to his efforts against oppressive taxation.
Currently, Moena serves as a ski resort, but its inhabitants maintain a strong Turkish identity. A Turkish Week is observed, where flags are flown and there stands a statue of a man revered as a hero among them, as Yaman explained to EbMaster during their private interview at the Mipcom TV market in October.
Upon viewing it, I was truly astonished. What made it even more captivating was the setting – Italy, a place I call home – and the fact that the story involved a hero from the Ottoman Empire. Reading the script initially, I couldn’t contain my excitement,” he said further.
Apart from Yaman playing the lead character, the cast of “El Turco” also includes Will Kemp (known for “The Christmas Waltz”), Greta Ferro (from “Io e mio fratello”), David Nykl (“Sleepers”), Kieran O’Reilly (“Vikings”), Veronica Ferres (“Berlin, I Love You”), and Maddalena Aragão (“Strawberries With Sugar”).
This series was penned by Kerem Deren and Çişil Hazal Tenim, while Uluç Bayraktar (“Ten Days of a Bad Man”) takes the helm as director. The stunning visuals are the work of Domenico Sica, who’s known for “Wonder Woman”, and Carlo Poggioli, renowned for his work on “The New Pope”, is responsible for the costumes.
