In 2024, Disney resurrected the “Descendants” series following a five-year break in movie production with “The Rise of Red.” Now, there’s talk that Disney is planning to revive yet another cherished Disney Channel Original Movie franchise.
It’s said that Disney is working on a third installment of Camp Rock. This sequel is reportedly spearheaded by Tim Federle, the creator of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. Eydie Faye, known for her work on Fuller House, is penning the script. Though specifics about the plot are being kept secret, Disney’s website hints at a storyline where a popular band searches for a new opening act to discover the next big musical talent. Additionally, it seems that a character named “Sage” is being cast as the potential future star of the Camp Rock series.
Is Alyson Stoner Returning for Camp Rock 3?
It seems that rumors suggest the filming for Camp Rock 3 might kick off this summer, though an official release is yet to be confirmed in 2026. However, Disney has not made any formal announcements regarding the project. Consequently, none of the original cast members have been officially confirmed, although there’s speculation about their involvement. In a recent interview, Alyson Stoner, who played Caitlyn Gellar in Camp Rock and Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam, was questioned about any updates on a third movie.
Stoner mentioned that she hasn’t come across any news about Camp Rock 3, but if you’re curious about how I found out? It was through the internet. She also pointed out that it’s not unusual for her to be unaware of Disney revivals as they haven’t contacted her yet on this matter. In other words, she’s unsure about the details.
The Camp Rock series includes two movies: the first one released in 2008 titled Camp Rock, and its sequel Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam which came out in 2010. Demi Lovato and Joe Jonas played leading roles in both films, while Nick Jonas, Kevin Jonas, Stoner, Meaghan Jette Martin, and Maria Canals-Barrera were part of the main cast. Interestingly, the original movie from 2008 still ranks as the third most-watched Disney Channel Original Movie ever made, with the sequel at number 7 on that list.
It’s uncertain if the Jonas Brothers and Lovato would be interested in another round of “Camp Rock,” since they seem to have moved away from their roles on Disney Channel. However, the Jonas Brothers are currently developing a Christmas comedy for Disney+, suggesting that they maintain a positive working bond with the company.
More DCOM Sequels Are on the Way
Here are two upcoming Disney Channel Original Movies (DCOMs) that will serve as sequels. First comes a film titled “Descendants: The Royal Wedding” in 2024, followed by “Descendants: Wicked Wonderland” in 2026. The latter is the fifth live-action movie in this cherished franchise. Actresses Kylie Cantrall and Malia Baker will reprise their roles as Red (the Queen of Hearts’ daughter) and Chloe (Cinderella and Prince Charming’s daughter), respectively, for the sequel, which continues the story immediately following the events of “The Rise of Red“.
Camp Rock and Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam are available to stream on Disney+.
