CAA and ESPN Alum Courtney Carter Joins Soccer Teams Seattle Sounders FC and Reign FC as Chief Revenue Officer

As a movie lover who has always been fascinated by the intersection of sports and business, I can’t help but be thrilled about Courtney Carter’s appointment as chief revenue officer for Seattle’s professional soccer teams, Sounders FC and Reign FC. Her background in sports marketing and branding, combined with her passion for soccer and deep roots in the Pacific Northwest, make this a perfect match.

Former CAA and ESPN employee Courtney Carter has been appointed as the chief revenue officer for both Seattle’s professional soccer teams, Sounders FC and Reign FC.

After a deal finalized last month, backed by private equity firm Carlyle’s investment, the Seattle Reign FC women’s soccer team is now under the same ownership as the Seattle Sounders FC men’s soccer team. This transaction represents two significant trends in American sports: the increasing popularity of soccer and the rising interest in women’s sports specifically. The Sounders FC belong to Major League Soccer, whereas the Reign FC are part of the National Women’s Soccer League.

Carter’s experience in sports marketing and branding makes her an ideal addition to the Sounders and Reign ownership group, as they aim to significantly increase corporate partnerships, ticket sales, and business opportunities at their facilities in Renton, Washington, including the Providence Swedish Performance Center and Clubhouse. Having grown up in Portland, Oregon, Carter is familiar with the Pacific Northwest region, and her impressive soccer background, earned while playing for Oregon State University, adds to her qualifications for this role.

“Hugh Weber, Sounders and Reign’s business operations president, expressed his excitement about Courtney’s return to the Pacific Northwest. As both Chief Revenue Officer for Sounders FC and Reign FC and a key member of our larger business enterprise, Courtney brings valuable skills to the table. Her background in growing successful organizations, her dedication to creating favorable results for our fans, partners, and community, as well as her local ties and sports connections, make me thrilled that she is on board with our objectives.”

More recently, Carter headed Carter Media Group, a business specializing in media and brand management for various clients. Previously, she was an agent at CAA’s TV, digital, and brand partnerships team, handling the sale and production of programs and content marketing campaigns on multiple platforms. Earlier in her career, Carter managed sports and branded content as director at ESPN. She also contributed to Madison Square Garden and Major League Soccer / Soccer United Marketing.

Going back to the Pacific Northwest feels like coming full circle for me since it’s where I discovered my passion for soccer and gained valuable life experiences. It’s an amazing time now, as sports, particularly soccer, are shaping our culture in a significant way. The power of unity through sport is truly inspiring, and I’m eager to contribute to these esteemed championship clubs and their passionate fan bases as we work towards a more enlightened future.
