‘Bull Durham’ Co-Stars Kevin Costner and Susan Sarandon Reunite at Venice Film Festival: ‘There’s Nothing Like Catching Up With an Old Friend’

As a lover of timeless cinematic masterpieces and the captivating performances they provide, it is truly heartwarming to witness the reunion of two legends like Kevin Costner and Susan Sarandon. Their camaraderie and shared history, as evidenced in the iconic “Bull Durham,” continue to resonate even 36 years later.

Thirty-six years following the premiere of Ron Shelton’s passionate baseball drama “Bull Durham,” Kevin Costner and Susan Sarandon reunited once more, this time at the 81st Venice Film Festival.

“On Thursday, Costner posted on Instagram expressing how delightful it was reconnecting with an old friend, Susan Sarandon,” he wrote, accompanied by a photo of the two. “It’s been quite a journey since our ‘Bull Durham’ days!”

Sarandon received a nomination for the Golden Globe Award in the Best Musical or Comedy category, thanks to her performance in the 1988 blockbuster film.

The duo came together on September 5 at the Better World Fund’s charity event held at the Cipriani Hotel in Venice. On Instagram, the Better World Fund expressed that the evening was a special one dedicated to uplifting women through the medium of art. In the company of our distinguished guests, Susan Sarandon and Kevin Costner, the luxurious and classic atmosphere of the Cipriani Hotel served as an ideal setting for this inspiring project, ensuring a night filled with a memorable blend of art and charitable work.

As a fervent admirer, I’m thrilled to share that both Susan Sarandon and Kevin Costner are gracing the city of Venice this year. Sarandon is being recognized by the Better World Fund, while Costner is introducing the second chapter of his grand Western saga, “Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2.” In this production, Costner takes on the dual roles of director and actor, sharing the screen with a talented ensemble that includes Sienna Miller, Giovanni Ribisi, Sam Worthington, Ella Hunt, Will Patton, Luke Wilson, and Kathleen Quinlan.

Costner himself primarily financed the creation of chapters one and two of “Horizon”, with an estimated budget of around $100 million for the first installment. Unfortunately, this initial chapter struggled financially, earning only approximately $34 million at the global box office. Despite the upcoming glitzy premiere of “Chapter 2” at Venice, its theatrical release date is uncertain as it was taken off the August 16th release schedule in July.
