It’s great news that the upcoming Buffy reboot has found its new teenage vampire slayer in Ryan Kiera Armstrong, who starred in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. On Wednesday afternoon, Sarah Michelle Gellar announced this on Instagram by video call, where she informed Armstrong about her role as the new lead slayer on the show. Since Gellar will be more of a supporting character this time around, Armstrong will take the lead. Upon receiving the offer, Armstrong was overcome with emotion and happily accepted the role – unlike Buffy’s initial reluctance when asked to become the slayer.
Nora Zuckerman and Lila Zuckerman, writers from Poker Face, will pen, oversee, and executive produce the new series, while Chloé Zhao will direct. Although controversial creator Joss Whedon is not involved in the reboot, some original cast members have returned for more. The executive producers for the reboot include Gellar, Gail Berman, Fran Kuzui, Kaz Kuzui, and Dolly Parton – all of whom were executive producers on the original series. Here’s hoping that Parton might compose a song or two for Armstrong to slay to!
