Orlando Bloom, known for his role as Star, has been added to the cast of a new movie titled “Bucking Fastard”. In this film, sisters Kate and Rooney Mara will be working together for the first time. Alongside Bloom, actor Domhnall Gleeson, who was in “Ex Machina”, has also joined the cast. The director of this upcoming drama is Werner Herzog, who was nominated for an Oscar.

Over the weekend, the film crew for “Bucking Fastards” completed shooting in Europe. The real-life sisters Kate and Rooney Mara portray Jean and Joan Holbrooke, two sisters who are so deeply connected that they often speak simultaneously, both love the same man, share the same aspirations, and even make identical verbal slips at the same time. In their quest for a mythical land called the Orkneys, where true love can flourish, they embark on a project to tunnel through an entire mountain range.

I’ll be taking on the role of Bloom as the rowdy, former love interest of the sisters, Gareth Mulroney. On the other hand, Gleeson will breathe life into Timothy, a government-appointed social worker/mediator who strives to help these tabloid sensations readjust to contemporary society after their lives become headline news.

The Director Comments on Bucking Fastards

At the international market, HanWay Films serves as the representative for this project’s sales. They will unveil the initial clips of the movie at Cannes, which were shot in Dublin, Sligo (Ireland), and Slovenia to potential buyers. The production of this film is funded by a private equity firm, and it’s jointly produced by Clara Wu Tsai, Ariel Leon Isacovitch, Agnes Chu, Kieran Corrigan, Emanuele Moretti, and Andrea Bucko.

As a devoted admirer, let me express that Werner Herzog, renowned for directing ‘Bucking Fastard’, was not only behind the camera but also the scriptwriter. In a recent announcement about his latest endeavor, he stated, “For me, ‘Bucking Fastard’ serves as the concluding chapter in an operatic trilogy that includes my earlier films, ‘Fitzcarraldo’ (1982) and ‘Grizzly Man’ (2005). We may not be able to perceive the world as Jean and Joan Holbrooke do, but we witness how the world responds to them – through legal systems, media, those who wish to aid and those who seek to exploit, through the gaze of domestic and wild animals, and even through their own reverberations deep within the Earth.

Bloom and the Mara Sisters’ Projects

Apart from being known for his character Legolas from the Lord of the Rings series, Orlando Bloom is also recognized for playing Will Turner in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. Lately, he has appeared in the films titled (2023) and Red Right Hand (2024).

In the year 2015, Kate Mara played Sue Storm opposite Michael B. Jordan’s Johnny Storm in a movie titled “ ” (the title is missing). She was also part of “The Martian” released that same year. Her performance as Zoe Barnes in House of Cards earned her an Emmy nomination in 2014. Currently, she can be seen in “The Astronaut” alongside another actor/actress (the co-star’s name is missing). On the other hand, Rooney Mara received Oscar nods twice – first in 2012 for the film “ ” (title missing) and then in 2016 for “Carol” (2015).

The upcoming Cannes Film Festival in May won’t unveil Bucking Fastard just yet, as no official release date has been set, but you can expect to see some footage there.
