Broken Arrow is coming out today, and it’s a perfect example of Advanced Access FOMO

Surprisingly enough, the long-awaited game “Broken Arrow” is officially launching today. Despite a multiplayer beta in February 2024 causing severe server issues, leading to another delay in October, they’ve made amends with an open beta in November. Now, after years of development since its initial announcement in 2019, it’s finally releasing for Advanced Access on Steam today. However, there’s a lingering unease about it all.

One tiny problem with Broken Arrow’s limited-time Vanguard Edition

Broken Arrow will officially debut on June 19th, priced at $49.99. However, starting today, you can jump in early with the Vanguard Edition for $59.99. It’s not exactly groundbreaking to see special editions offering advanced access, but Steel Balalaika’s approach seems reminiscent of a common phenomenon known as FOMO (fear of missing out).

As a gaming enthusiast, I’m excited to share that the Vanguard Edition is up for grabs! It includes the game’s sick soundtrack, early access for three whole days, some badass digital wallpapers, and 10 sweet cosmetic skins. These extras are pretty common, but they’re still a nice touch. However, the catch is that it’s only available for purchase from June 16th at 4 PM GMT until the game officially launches on June 19th. After that, it’ll vanish like a ghost in the night, so grab it while you can!

As for those special cosmetics, the developer explained it in the FAQ:

Will the skins for Vanguard be available at a later stage?

Maybe. To be honest, we don’t know yet. Certainly not anytime soon.

I have to say, that explanation seems as unclear as can be, and I think most people would agree. What really irks folks is when products are only available for a brief period of time. And when that window is just a few days – it’s downright absurd. Even the limited-time DLCs for Dave the Diver lasted for months. So it feels like an excessive fear of missing out that nobody asked for.
