Bring Her Back Directors Reveal Their Horror Film’s Description

Directors Danny and Michael Philippou are gearing up for the release of their upcoming film titled “Bring Her Back”. This horror flick marks another collaboration by the sibling duo, who gained success with their 2022 debut, “Talk to Me.” While details about the movie remain scant, A24 has recently granted the Philippous an opportunity to share a glimpse into the film: “A chilling, distressing, and entertaining experience.” Needless to say, we’re eagerly waiting for the movie to hit theaters nationwide on May 30.

In a fresh behind-the-scenes clip from A24, the Philippou brothers have shared some insights about their upcoming horror project. They seem to read each other’s minds, frequently finishing sentences together, and their voices harmoniously intertwine. It’s challenging to visualize either of them directing a film independently, given their successful collaborative history in creating comedy content on YouTube. The Philippous are still tantalizing us with sneak peeks of the movie titled “Bring Her Back“.

As a cinephile, I’ve always been drawn to tales that push boundaries, and my upcoming project, “Bring Her Back,” is no exception. Unlike my previous work, “Talk to Me,” this new film delves deeper into the realms of psychological horror. Truth be told, ever since I first envisioned it, “Bring Her Back” has been the film I’ve yearned to bring to life. You see, I’ve always been intrigued by character studies and the complexities that a ‘psycho-biddy’ film can offer.

In the movie, Sally Hawkins plays the most seasoned actor, with Billy Barratt, a rising talent known for roles in shows like “Invasion” and “The Alienist,” supporting her. Billy has also been seen in films such as “Kraven the Hunter” and made history in 2020 by becoming the youngest recipient of the International Emmy Award for Best Actor for his work in “Responsible Child.” The film’s directors offer a brief synopsis of the story centered around Sally Hawkins’ character, Laura: “Laura lost someone dear named Cathy, leaving a void in her heart. She takes care of foster children and has an unconventional approach to parenting. Laura is compassionate, nurturing, extremely motherly, yet slightly psychotic.

As a cinephile, I eagerly anticipate viewers leaving the theater, struck by a unique blend of fear and emotion, whispering to themselves, “This film is a chilling horror, yet it tugs at my heartstrings as well.

“We Love Sally Hawkins and Felt So Honored to Be Able to Work With Her”

She breathed life into this role.

The way she immersed herself into that role was nothing short of astonishing; she poured a piece of her essence into the character, and when she was on set, it was as if she truly became that character. Even the crew members found themselves in awe of her, and so did I.

Earlier on, they expressed their excitement to IndieWire about the fact that she hadn’t made a pure, unadulterated horror movie yet. To put it another way, Michael adds that this is her first opportunity to star in a full-fledged, no-holds-barred horror film.

I found it quite intimidating approaching a well-known actor. However, what we were seeking was a collaborative partner who could connect with us on an emotional level and delve into the character together without any barriers or authoritative behavior. But our initial conversation with Sally surpassed all expectations – she was genuine, approachable, and instantly began dissecting the script, discussing intricate character details that we hadn’t even considered in our discussions, these subtle nuances and her unique take on them. All of this transpired during our very first phone call.
