Brillante Mendoza, Rima Das, Tom Lin Latest Titles Light up Busan’s Jiseok Section

As a seasoned cinephile with a penchant for exploring the uncharted territories of global cinema, I eagerly anticipate the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) 2024. The diverse lineup of films by both established and emerging Asian directors promises an enriching cinematic journey that will undoubtedly broaden my horizons.

The most recent movies from well-known Asian filmmakers like Brillante Mendoza, Tom Lin, and Rima Das have been chosen to compete in the Jiseok category at the Busan International Film Festival.

In my humble opinion, during this year’s event, they showcased the roster for their New Currents competition – a space designed specifically for emerging filmmakers. Over time, this competition has proven itself to be a significant launchpad for fresh talent, and I can’t wait to see what gems it unearths this year!

This year’s lineup of New Currents features a total of four films from both Japan and South Korea, as well as entries from Myanmar, Iran, Kazakhstan, the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, and Indonesia.

The festival will run Oct. 2-11, 2024. Its full selection will be announced on Tuesday.
