Despite the title, a fourth Rush Hour movie has been a long time coming. Reuniting Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker as Inspector Lee and Detective Carter hasn’t been a priority, and the project has been stuck in development for years. Director Brett Ratner mentioned exploring the idea with writers back in 2017, and now, almost a decade later, it looks like he’s finally ready to make the sequel fans have been hoping for.
TMZ reports that Brett Ratner’s comeback is quickly moving forward with Rush Hour 4. A source says the movie is “definitely happening – and coming soon!” Pre-production could start in just a few weeks, with filming planned for this fall. A dedicated fan’s strong support reportedly helped get the project greenlit. Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker are both expected to return as their famous characters after almost 20 years, though details about other cast members haven’t been announced yet.
The next Rush Hour movie, reportedly titled Rush Hour 4, will likely take Agents Lee and Carter around the world to investigate illegal wildlife poaching and take down the criminals behind it. Filming is expected to happen in China, Africa, and Saudi Arabia. This continues the tradition of the series, which previously sent Lee to Los Angeles (Rush Hour), Carter to Hong Kong (Rush Hour 2), and both detectives to France (Rush Hour 3) for their investigations. While the new film will take them to new locations, it’s expected to maintain the same comedic formula and familiar elements that fans loved about the original three movies.
Brett Ratner Is Back in the Director’s Chair

New Line Cinema
Brett Ratner directed the first Rush Hour movie in 1998, and then the two sequels that followed in 2001 and 2007. In 2017, the same year he suggested making a fourth Rush Hour film, his career stalled. This followed accusations of sexual misconduct made by multiple actresses during the #MeToo movement, allegations he strongly denied. Though he maintained his innocence, Ratner faced significant consequences in the entertainment industry and had to leave all major projects.
