Brad Pitt Says ‘My Personal Life Is Always in the News’ and It’s an ‘Annoyance’ to Deal With While Filming: ‘It’s Always Been’ a ‘Nagging Time Suck’

Brad Pitt features on the recent cover of GQ magazine, joined by his “F1” co-star Damson Idris and producer Lewis Hamilton. The racing film, titled “F1,” is set to hit cinemas this summer following a delay due to Hollywood strikes that halted production for a year. Filming for “F1” wrapped up at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi just as Brad Pitt was finalizing his divorce from Angelina Jolie.

Pitt commented on the frequent media attention his private life receives while discussing filming movies under public scrutiny, stating, ‘My personal life has been a constant news topic for 30 years. To clarify, I mean some aspect of my personal life.’

As a cinephile, when someone inquired about filming “F1” serving as an escape from the relentless spotlight on my private affairs, I replied: “It’s been a persistent distraction, one that I’ve had to manage in varying intensities while pursuing what truly matters to me. So, it can feel like a drain or a waste of time if you let it consume you. I guess I’m not sure. I’m not sure.

Generally, I feel quite content… My existence is generally peaceful,” Pitt continued. “It seems quite cozy and protected with my friends, my loved ones, my family, and my understanding of myself, which is like a small insect occasionally fluttering about.

Later on, GQ inquired if Brad Pitt felt any sense of relief now that his divorce had officially ended, to which he replied: “Not particularly, it wasn’t a big deal. Just an ending of a process. A legal conclusion.

In December 2024, after eight lengthy legal battles, Angelina and Brad finally reached a settlement on our divorce. At the time, Angelina’s attorney, James Simon, released a statement saying, “Eight years ago, Angelina filed for divorce from Brad. Since then, she has prioritized finding peace and healing for our family. This is just one step in the long journey we started eight years ago. To be honest, Angelina is drained, but she’s relieved to have this particular part behind us.

In 2016, the former high-profile Hollywood pair found themselves at the heart of international news following an argument on a private plane that they were involved in. According to Angelina Jolie’s lawsuit against Brad Pitt, he is said to have choked one of their children, struck another in the face, and violently shook her head. The incident prompted Jolie to file for divorce just a few days later.

In April 2024, a lawsuit was filed by Jolie’s attorney, which claimed that Pitt’s physical abuse had started prior to the 2016 incident. Earlier in 2022, Pitt accused Jolie of breaching “contractual rights” when she sold her share of their Château Miraval winery without informing him. In response to this accusation, Jolie’s legal team counter-sued Pitt, alleging that he had prevented Jolie from selling her share of the winery unless she signed a nondisclosure agreement, which would have barred her from discussing in court or publicly Pitt’s alleged physical and emotional abuse towards her and their children.

After sorting out my personal life and the release of “F1” in global cinemas this June, I’ve found myself reenergized as an actor. There were whispers about me retiring last year when I mentioned I was nearing the end of my acting journey, but I made it clear that I still had plenty of years ahead to continue honing my craft. Working on “F1” has convinced me that retirement is not looming anytime soon.

Pitt expressed, “I’ve been at this for some time now and a thought crossed my mind: Do I have more tales to spin? Is there anything fresh I can contribute? Is there still a spark of enthusiasm left in me from this?” He shared this with GQ, explaining that the film served to rekindle his passion once more.

Pitt’s acting career is set to carry on beyond the summer’s “F1” with additional film ventures like “Heart of the Beast,” a Navy SEAL drama that sees him team up once more with his “Fury” director David Ayer, and a follow-up to “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.” In this sequel, Pitt will reprise his award-winning character Cliff Booth, under the guidance of directors David Fincher and Quentin Tarantino.
