Brad Pitt and George Clooney Dance to 4-Minute Standing Ovation for ‘Wolfs’ During Chaotic Venice Premiere

As a long-time admirer of Hollywood and its mesmerizing world, witnessing the electrifying spectacle at the Venice Film Festival was nothing short of breathtaking. The chemistry between Brad Pitt and George Clooney, two titans of the silver screen, was palpable as they danced to Sade’s “Smooth Operator” under the Italian sun. Their camaraderie, spanning decades, is a testament to the enduring power of friendship and the magic that can be created when talented artists collaborate.

Brad Pitt and George Clooney celebrated their new movie, “Wolves,” with a warm embrace and some dancing, during the Venice Film Festival on Sunday evening. The audience showed their appreciation with a four-minute long standing ovation for these two iconic actors.

The opening event was pushed back by more than half an hour due to fans rushing into Venice’s Grand Sala, eager to see Pitt and Clooney. Upon their arrival within, the atmosphere – both audible and palpable – could simply be labeled as passionate. Each performer made their way to opposite sides of the red carpet, signing autographs and snapping selfies before being escorted by security to their seats.

Two stars walked into the cinema, greeting the excited audience with a loud “Good evening!” This caused some enthusiastic fans to try and catch their attention by responding. Despite the movie starting, the commotion persisted; people without tickets were struggling to find vacant seats. A few were removed during the film as latecomers arrived.

As the closing credits for the crime comedy unfolded, Pitt and Clooney exchanged a hearty embrace, followed by dancing to Sade’s “Smooth Operator”. Afterwards, Clooney leaned towards his wife Amal for a tender kiss before resuming his spot on stage.

The four-minute standing ovation might not seem exceptionally prolonged considering Brad Pitt and George Clooney’s celebrity status. However, it appeared that festival organizers aimed to expedite the departure of spectators due to the film’s delayed start and the lively atmosphere, which was hard to control.

Under the guidance of Jon Watts, who helmed “Spider-Man” but was unable to attend the premiere due to a COVID diagnosis, this Apple Original Films production delves into the action-comedy genre, starring Brad Pitt and George Clooney as independent problem solvers. However, they are forced to collaborate when assigned the same task. Additionally, the cast includes Amy Ryan, Austin Abrams, and Poorna Jagannathan in the movie titled “Wolfs”. It was revealed earlier this month that a sequel is already in development, with Watts and both stars set to return for the next installment.

Brad Pitt and George Clooney are teaming up on a film together for the first time since their roles in the Coen Brothers’ 2008 comedy “Burn After Reading.” Prior to that, they worked together in the Ocean’s franchise from 2001 to 2007. Both actors have previously appeared at the Venice Film Festival: Clooney attended in 2009 for Grant Heslov’s “The Men Who Stare at Goats,” while Pitt premiered David Fincher’s “Fight Club” in 1999 and won the Volpi Cup for best actor in Andrew Dominik’s “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford” in 2007.

In a recent feature article for GQ, Pitt and Clooney talked about their long-standing friendship and the current landscape of Hollywood. As Clooney stated, “The studio system no longer cultivates stars as they used to.” The two men were among the last to experience this old way of working, where an actor could do multiple films for a studio with some level of planning. According to Clooney, this structure isn’t as prevalent anymore, making it more challenging to market a film based on a star’s reputation.

Following its initial screening at Venice, the film “Wolfs” is set to hit cinemas briefly from September 20th. It will then become available on Apple TV+ starting September 27th.
