This weekend, “Thunderbolts*” are expected to maintain their position at the top of the domestic box office, as there’s no significant new wide release movie until the upcoming horror sequel “Final Destination: Bloodlines” hits theaters next week.
On Friday, Marvel’s “Thunderbolts” earned an additional $9 million. With continued screenings in IMAX and premium large-format cinemas, Disney’s superhero group film has surpassed $100 million in North America. By the end of this weekend, it is anticipated to reach over $130 million.
Or,
On Friday, Marvel’s “Thunderbolts” made another $9 million. Still playing in IMAX and premium large-format cinemas, Disney’s superhero movie has now surpassed the $100 million mark in North America and is expected to reach more than $130 million by the end of the weekend.
Or,
Marvel’s “Thunderbolts” earned an additional $9 million on Friday. In IMAX and premium large-format cinemas, Disney’s superhero ensemble film has surpassed $100 million in North America. By Sunday’s end, it’s projected to exceed $130 million.
All versions aim to convey the same information in an easy-to-read manner.
The “Thunderbolts*” opening weekend saw a predicted decline of around 53%. Despite weaker reviews compared to its predecessor, “Captain America: Brave New World,” it’s expected that this Marvel Cinematic Universe installment will hold up better due to stronger audience reception. In contrast, “Captain America: Brave New World” plummeted over 68% during its second week in February. When compared to other recent MCU films centered around lesser-known heroes, the opening eight-day earnings of “Thunderbolts*” are between those of “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” ($119 million) and “Eternals” ($99 million).
According to predictions, “Thunderbolts” is expected to experience one of the eight largest second-weekend declines among all MCU films. This is a good performance, but considering its production budget of $180 million and marketing costs estimated at around $100 million, it needs to continue engaging audiences as summer competition becomes more intense.
In the meantime, “Sinners” accumulated an additional $6.5 million on Friday. By Saturday, it is expected to surpass a domestic total of $200 million, marking a remarkable achievement for an original film. This Warner Bros. production has now outperformed “Captain America: Brave New World” and currently stands as the second-highest-grossing North American release of 2025, with only “A Minecraft Movie” ahead of it in terms of earnings.
The movie “Sinners” has experienced another minor decrease in its fourth week. It’s on track to surpass the earnings of “Wedding Crashers” ($209 million), moving closer to securing a place among the top 20 highest-grossing R-rated films in North America. With more positions to conquer, there’s still room for further growth.
The Minecraft film earned an additional $1.9 million on Friday, dropping only 37% from its previous weekly high. In its sixth weekend, the movie based on Mojang’s popular video game has amassed a domestic total of $402 million and is moving closer to the top 50 highest-grossing North American films of all time. It’s projected to reach a worldwide gross of over $900 million on Saturday.”
Or, in a more casual tone:
“The Minecraft movie made an extra $1.9 million this Friday, not dropping too much from its weekly peak. In its sixth weekend, it’s now close to cracking the top 50 highest-grossing North American films ever, with a domestic total of $402 million. By tomorrow, it’s expected to pass the $900 million mark worldwide.
The upcoming film “The Accountant 2” from Amazon MGM is projected to earn approximately $1.67 million on Friday, bringing its total domestic earnings close to $50.8 million by Sunday, in its third weekend of release. Starring Ben Affleck, the action sequel is expected to surpass this figure, but it’s worth noting that it’s running about 20% behind the original 2016 film “The Accountant” in terms of box office success. This could be attributed to the fact that the newer movie had a higher production cost compared to its predecessor.
The horror movie “Clown in a Cornfield” by IFC is set to debut in 2,277 cinemas under their Shudder label, which specializes in horror films. It made approximately $1.69 million during its opening day and previews. Reviews from the SXSW Festival premiere in March were generally positive, but Cinema Score gave it a moderate “C+” rating. Last year’s “Late Night With the Devil” also had a small, low-budget success with a $2.8 million opening, and “Clown in a Cornfield” is currently performing slightly better than that.
Beyond the top five contenders, Lionsgate is debuting the action film “Shadow Force” starring Kerry Washington and Omar Sy this weekend across 2,170 cinemas. The movie brought in approximately $720,000 during its first day and previews. Critical reception has been predominantly unfavorable, with a modest “B” grade from Cinema Score. Meanwhile, Vertical is premiering the Josh Hartnett airplane thriller “Fight or Flight” in 2,153 cinemas. The film generated roughly $990,000 on its opening day, but received positive reviews from critics. However, audiences were less impressed, giving it a “C+” grade from Cinema Score. Furthermore, Briarcliff is releasing the poorly-reviewed musical “Juliet & Romeo” in 1,350 locations. The film is estimated to have earned around $96,000 on Friday.
