Box Office: ‘Speak No Evil’ Makes $1.3 Million in Previews

As a seasoned cinephile who’s been through more horror movies than I care to count (and still counting), I must say that the upcoming release of “Speak No Evil” has me intrigued. The original Danish film garnered rave reviews for its dark storyline and chilling atmosphere, so I’m eager to see how this American remake stacks up.

“Speak No Evil” is ready to make some noise at the box office this weekend.

Two years following the chilling Danish original, the reimagined Universal-Blumhouse horror flick raked in $1.3 million during previews at the box office. Predictions suggest it could earn between $10 million and $13 million over its opening weekend, a promising start given its budget of only $15 million.

In comparison, the film ‘Speak No Evil’ is unlikely to outperform Warner Bros.’ ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,’ which had a terrifyingly successful opening weekend with earnings of $111 million. With predictions that box office sales will drop by approximately 60% in its second week, the total revenue for ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ is expected to reach around $45 million.

James Watkins (“Bastille Day”) helms “Speak No Evil,” a chilling psychological horror about a vacation that takes a sinister turn for an American couple, Louise and Ben (played by Davis and Scoot McNairy). While traveling abroad, they encounter the enigmatic British duo Paddy and Ciara, portrayed eerily by Michael Fassbender and Aisling Franciosi. Invited to stay with them over a weekend, the trip soon becomes a living nightmare as events take an ominous turn. The original Danish film received critical acclaim at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival’s Midnight section for its gripping storyline, captivating characters, and skillful direction.

Additionally, this weekend will see the release of “The Killer’s Game” from Lionsgate, featuring Dave Bautista, Sofia Boutella, Pom Klementieff, Terry Crews and others in the cast. Bautista takes on the role of an assassin who accidentally targeted himself when he believed he had a fatal illness, but it turned out to be a false diagnosis. The action-packed movie is projected to earn $5 million upon its opening.
