Disney’s animated film “Lilo & Stitch” has been performing exceptionally well at the global box office, earning approximately $610 million in total ticket sales, making it the second highest-grossing Hollywood movie of 2025.
Given its current trajectory, “Lilo & Stitch” has a strong chance of outperforming “A Minecraft Movie” ($947 million) as the highest-grossing film of the year so far. In just two weekends in cinemas, the live-action remake of “Lilo” has amassed $330.7 million globally and $280.1 million domestically. This total includes an impressive $113.1 million from 51 territories during its second weekend, with key countries like Mexico ($45.9 million), the United Kingdom ($34.5 million), France ($23.1 million), and Brazil ($21.6 million) contributing significantly to its earnings.
As a devoted cinema enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that two blockbusters have recently crossed impressive financial thresholds at the box office. Specifically, Paramount’s “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” and Warner Bros.’ R-rated blood-chiller “Sinners” have both surpassed the $350 million mark!
Over the weekend, “The Final Reckoning” brought in an additional $76.1 million internationally during its second week, with China contributing $25.2 million as its opening figure. To date, this eighth installment of Tom Cruise’s action franchise has accumulated $231.1 million overseas and a total of $353.8 million globally. Considering its hefty production cost of $400 million, “The Final Reckoning” must continue to attract audiences to make a theatrical profit.
The film titled “Sinners,” helmed by Ryan Coogler and featuring Michael B. Jordan, has proven to be a massive success with a total gross of $350.1 million worldwide, with $83 million coming from international markets. Notably, “Sinners” ranks among the top 10 highest-earning films in the first half of the year, making it unique as it’s the sole original story in this list, not derived from any previously established intellectual property (IP).
In different regions, Sony’s sequel “The Karate Kid: Legends” earned a modest $12 million across 43 countries during the weekend, leaving 40% of its total locations still to be unveiled. The PG-13 movie commenced its international launch in May and has so far accumulated $26 million internationally and $47 million globally. “The Karate Kid: Legends,” which carries a production budget of $45 million, continues the story three years after the TV spinoff “Cobra Kai.” In this installment, a new student (Ben Wang) is taken under the wing of Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Mr. Han (Jackie Chan), who reprised his role from the 2010 “Karate Kid” remake.)
As a fervent admirer, I must express my disappointment that the chilling horror thriller “Bring Her Back,” directed by the talented duo Danny and Michael Philippou of “Talk to Me” fame, only managed to rake in $1 million during its release across eight markets. However, it’s worth noting that its performance was much stronger in the U.S., pulling in an impressive $7 million. It seems Sony has decided to leave international markets, excluding China and Japan, while A24 takes charge of distribution within North America. The film, which has garnered positive reception, delves into the dark secrets hidden at the foster home of two step-siblings who stumble upon a terrifying ritual.
In other locations, Wes Anderson’s film “The Phoenician Scheme” earned an additional $4.1 million from 41 different markets, bringing its international total to $6.2 million. The intricately crafted spy thriller, which debuted in the U.S. with $570,000 from only six cinemas (averaging approximately $95,000 per venue), has now made a total of $6.7 million. Familiar faces from Anderson’s filmography such as Benicio del Toro, Riz Ahmed, Tom Hanks, and Benedict Cumberbatch, along with newcomer Mia Threapleton, star in “The Phoenician Scheme.” The story revolves around Zsa-zsa Korda, a wealthy businessman who, upon appointing his only daughter, a nun, as the sole heir to his estate, finds himself entangled among cunning tycoons and relentless assassins.
