3Media International, the media company, announced four fresh adaptations of the “Liar” format from Two Brothers Productions, raising the total number of regions creating their own versions of this series to fifteen.
Botswana Ignite is set to create a fresh interpretation of this intellectual property, making it the debut of this IP on African soil, and also a groundbreaking moment as one of All3Media International’s original scripted productions gets adapted for the first time within Sub-Saharan Africa.
Duncan Irvine, who serves as both Executive Producer and Project Director for Botswana Ignite, expressed his immense joy about bringing this gripping drama into the Botswana Ignite project. This international drama boasts an outstanding reputation, and with such a talented production team, it will not only offer an engaging series to viewers in Botswana but also provide a valuable learning experience and potential boost for the local film industry in the country.
Developments for new adaptations of “Liar” are underway in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, but the exact countries involved have not been disclosed as of now. This expands upon the ten territories that currently have their own versions: India, Italy, France, Germany, Spain, Greece, Slovakia, Turkey, Malaysia, and Georgia.
The drama series “Liar,” penned by Harry and Jack Williams, first aired in the U.K. back in 2017. It was produced by Two Brothers Pictures for ITV. In this gripping fictional thriller, the initial connection between two characters sets off a chain of events that affects not only them but also those around them significantly. “Liar” offers perspectives from both sides of the story, both versions being truthful, and delves into issues such as gender politics, family dynamics, and the damaging effects of dishonesty.
The initial broadcast in the U.K. was met with positive criticism, resulting in ITV granting it a subsequent season. Previously, the Malaysian adaptation of “Liar” clinched the award for ‘Best Adaptation of an Existing Format’ at the Asian Academy Creative Awards.
