True to speculation, the climactic episode unveiled Renee Ballard (played by Maggie Q), a fresh LAPD homicide detective tackling cold cases in LA and the central character of the upcoming ‘Bosch’ franchise spinoff, titled ‘Ballard’. As Harry relinquishes his role to Renee, the final episode offered viewers a tantalizing sneak peek into the future of our beloved characters.

Although certain characters’ conclusions are extensively explored, it’s plausible that the developments involving a few key figures from the final episode of “Bosch: Legacy” could lead to further appearances in the upcoming “Ballard” series. With the next installment of the “Bosch” spinoff expected in 2025, let’s review where the principal characters from “Legacy” ended up in the finale and beyond.

What Happened to Harry Bosch?

In the closing scene of “Dig Down,” Bosch and Ballard are hot on the trail of McKee, who they correctly suspect is the Flower Girls murderer. Moore storms into McKee’s residence, but he manages to slip away when the tracker’s batteries die. With no trace of his whereabouts, McKee hurries to claim another victim. However, Bosch and Ballard miraculously show up just in the knick of time to foil his schemes after Moore cracks McKee’s computer and uncovers the destination address.

Following McKee’s attempted murder of a woman, Bosch, Bosch, and Mo pass on the stolen files discovered from McKee’s computer to Honey. With Chandler now serving as District Attorney, these files provide the necessary evidence for his imprisonment of McKee. Bosch proposes collaboration with Ballard in future cases, though she maintains her icy distance towards him as usual. As they part ways, Ballard cautions Bosch about the psychological impact of homicide investigations and advises him to prioritize his safety.

It seems clear from the series finale and Bosch’s solitary nature that he will likely carry on his private detective work in Los Angeles following the conclusion of Legacy. With a history of doing things his way, it’s only natural to expect that Bosch will continue to excel at solving homicides, whether in future installments like the Ballard spinoff or a Bosch movie. It’s difficult for fans to envision that they’ve witnessed the last of Detective Harry Bosch.

What Happened to Maddie Bosch?

As a movie critic, I’d say that in Season 3 of “Bosch: Legacy,” Maddie Bosch steps up from the traumas of her past as an abductee by Kurt Dockweiler (David Denman), becoming a patrol officer and eventually partnering with her mentor, Vasquez. The climax finds Maddie taking charge to arrest Finbar McShane, fearing that her father, Bosch, might cross legal lines in pursuit of justice against McShane. This theme of ethical boundaries, with Bosch guiding Maddie in the ways of law enforcement while she challenges his methods, is a recurring element throughout the series.

After McShane changes his identity and goes into hiding in Mexico, Maddie asks Bosch to bring him back to the U.S. for arrest without incident. McShane provokes Bosch and Gurbiz by revealing gruesome details of his latest murder, which leads Gurbiz to kill McShane before Bosch could. Upon returning home, Bosch reveals the hard truth to Maddie, causing her to grow wiser and more experienced. In Season 3, Maddie will advance in her career with the LAPD, having become a more mature and seasoned officer as a result.

What Happened to Honey Chandler?

Following their joint success in apprehending McKee, Honey Chandler significantly boosted her reputation as Los Angeles’ District Attorney. Known for her ambitious nature since the first season, this high-profile attorney managed to secure McKee’s arrest for the Flower Girl murders with DNA evidence provided by Bosch and Ballard in “Dig Down.” Given her growing professional connection with Ballard, it seems likely that viewers can expect more of Honey Chandler in the upcoming spinoff.

Regardless of their questionable history stemming from the initial Bosch series, Honey Chandler stood by Bosch until the very end, aided him in taking down McKee, and utilized the evidence to bolster her position as District Attorney.

What Happened to Mo Bassi?

In the aftermath of the Bosch: Legacy finale, it can be said that Mo Bassi will carry on in his part as an LAPD technical advisor. It was due to his courageous and insightful detective work during “Dig Down” that Bosch, Ballard, and Chandler were able to apprehend McKee. Mo exhibited remarkable heroism in the finale when he was sent to McKee’s apartment. He forcibly entered, hacked into McKee’s computer, uncovered the stolen files crucial to the case, and discovered McKee’s next destination’s address.

It’s heartening to see Mo making significant contributions, given how cherished he is in our midst. As a tech genius often found engrossed in his work at his desk, it’s high time Mo receives recognition for his efforts – perhaps even an increased role. Should Mo rejoin the cast for the Ballard spinoff, let’s hope for more of him on our screens.

What Happened to Reina Vasquez?

In the final episode of Bosch: Legacy, most other main characters found resolution, but Reina Vasquez did not. Throughout Season 3, her primary storyline revolved around her nephew, Albert Vasquez (played by Tommy Martinez). She uncovers that he was involved in a series of burglaries. Despite this knowledge, she chose to keep it secret, and it gradually affected her mentally. Her doubts were confirmed when she found hidden stolen jewelry at their grandfather’s assisted living facility.

Following careful consideration, Vasquez hands all the relevant data to her department. With Albert seemingly destined for capture, she feels a sense of relief when he miraculously survives a fierce gun battle that ultimately takes the life of his accomplice in drug trafficking. Tragically, their storyline is abruptly concluded in the finale, as Albert’s mother and Vasquez’s sister hold her responsible for his arrest. In response, she becomes enraged and engages in a brawl at a bar before eventually making amends with Maddie.

The final part of the series mostly overlooked Vasquez’s heartrending storyline, ending it inconclusively. During an interview with Collider, Sanchez hinted at the unresolved plotline, potentially suggesting a chance for Vasquez to reappear in the upcoming Ballard spinoff.
