Charlie Cox is returning as Daredevil for a second season, titled Daredevil: Born Again, just over a year after his first solo series with Marvel Studios. Vincent D’Onofrio reprises his role as Wilson Fisk, also known as Kingpin, and other familiar faces from the Marvel Cinematic Universe will appear. The new season picks up right after the events of the previous one, with Matt Murdock, as Daredevil, now a fugitive. Kingpin has imposed martial law on New York City and is actively pursuing Daredevil and anyone who supports him, putting them all in danger.
As a huge Daredevil fan, I was a little disappointed we only got one face-to-face between Daredevil and Kingpin in the first episode of the new season. Everyone’s hoping to see them really go at it again – it’s been a long wait since their last physical fight back in the final episode of the Netflix series in 2018! But even if they don’t throw down immediately, it feels like things are building to something huge. I’m expecting a lot more intense drama and a rivalry that’s bigger and better than ever before.
In an exclusive interview with MovieWeb, the showrunner of Daredevil: Born Again, Dario Scardapane, and executive producer Sana Amanat discussed the dynamic between Daredevil and Kingpin in the new season. When asked if the two characters share more similarities than they realize, Scardapane confirmed that they do.
Both the mayor and his team, and Daredevil, become symbolic figures. The mayor represents the established power, while Daredevil embodies the opposition. As their conflict escalates and they fight for change, they begin to understand each other on a deeper level, ultimately recognizing a surprising amount of similarity between themselves – perhaps more than either would like to admit.
You know, as a film fan, I really appreciate how much fun the creators seem to be having with the dynamic between Murdock and Fisk. It’s become clear that these two are inextricably linked – they’re always going to be connected, and we really see that when things fall apart in the city. It’s a fascinating, ongoing rivalry.
We realized during the first season that it was a lot of fun to highlight the characters’ similarities and contrasts, and to explore their undeniable, lifelong connection – whether positive or negative.

From the very beginning of Daredevil on Netflix, the show has highlighted the strong connection between Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk, even though they’re enemies. No other hero-villain duo in the Marvel Cinematic Universe shares this level of interdependence – Fisk’s goals for New York City are a direct contrast to Murdock’s, causing their paths to constantly collide.
After ten years of battling each other on screen, it’s clear that Daredevil and Kingpin are more alike than they seem, largely because both are deeply committed to what they believe in. As we move into Season 2, their rivalry is poised to reach its most intense and dramatic point yet, with Kingpin determined to find and defeat Daredevil.
