Borderlands 4’s Price Has Been Announced, And It’s Lower Than Some Expected

2K Games has publicly disclosed the cost of Borderlands 4, and it won’t break your bank at $70. In their latest blog update, they also revealed that pre-orders for the game have begun, with its standard version priced at this amount.

Typically, such a price wouldn’t cause much concern, but with Mario Kart World priced at $80 and The Outer Worlds also set at $80 upon its release this year, many are questioning how many other games might adopt the same pricing strategy. The debate over Borderlands 4’s potential cost was intensified by Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford, who stirred controversy when he suggested that “true fans” would find a way to pay $80 for the game if it indeed ended up costing that much.

Borderlands 4’s regular version retails at $70, but Gearbox provides other choices that are pricier. For instance, there’s a Deluxe edition costing $100, which includes additional features, and a Super Deluxe edition for $130 with even more extras. Furthermore, a Collector’s Edition is coming soon, but it won’t include the game itself and will cost around $150.

After the release of different versions of Borderlands 4, Gearbox Software is encouraging players to spend extra money on the game’s additional content following its launch. The game will feature two Story Packs (included in the Super Deluxe edition), each one introducing a new playable character, a fresh area to traverse within the game world, numerous missions, and additional loot. Additionally, there are plans for four Bounty Packs to be released post-launch, which will introduce new locations with more missions and distinctive boss battles. The pricing details for these packs outside of the premium editions have not been revealed yet; however, it’s recommended to stay informed about all the DLC information related to Borderlands 4 following its launch.

At PAX East, Pitchford expressed that the economic aspect of the video game industry is currently experiencing a challenging or difficult period.

In simpler terms, this person is explaining a situation where sellers aim to move as many products as they can while being mindful of price-conscious buyers. Some sellers resist raising prices because they don’t want to lose customers, even though they recognize that production costs and tariffs for packaging are going up. Others accept these realities and adjust their prices accordingly.

In a statement, it was revealed that Borderlands 4 boasts a development budget over double that of Borderlands 3. Pitchford expressed his hope that the game will achieve similar sales figures to its predecessor, enabling Gearbox to channel these earnings towards future projects.

2K is not using a uniform pricing strategy for all its video games; instead, Mafia: The Old Country will be launched at a price point of $50 in August, with the aim of appealing to the broadest potential customer base.

2K, a branch of Take-Two Interactive Software, houses Rockstar Games, which plans to release GTA 6 in 2026. The question on many minds is what the game’s price tag will be, and as of now, it’s still uncertain. Some industry insiders are optimistic that the cost might be around $100.

The highly-anticipated game, Borderlands 4, will be available for play starting September 12 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. A release for Nintendo’s upcoming Switch 2 console is planned at a later date.
