In autumn, Borderlands 4 will usher in the main series of this franchise for the current console era. As the game is nearing its launch date, Gearbox Software’s development team has introduced a fresh YouTube series titled “Beyond the Borderlands” to document their work. The inaugural episode delves into the process of crafting an unforgettable vault hunter character.
Adam May, the art director, stated, “We aim for a character that both players and us can identify with. Comic book heroes often serve as our inspiration. We strive to create something that feels comfortable and exciting, a character you’d actually want to embody in real life. The process begins by brainstorming and understanding the type of dreams we want to offer players.
In addition, the team revealed that ideas for fresh Vault Hunters originate from various departments within the company, and occasionally these character concepts are blended into unique combinations. As per Nick Thurston, the lead character designer, “The essence of Borderlands is essentially being badass. The skills, the equipment, everything; it all needs to embody what our community anticipates. They can hail from any background. They can offer anything, but fundamentally they must be appealing and enjoyable to play.
As of now, the cost for Borderlands 4 hasn’t been disclosed, but Gearbox Software head Randy Pitchford stirred up some debate when he implied that “dedicated fans” would manage to pay $80 for it if it retails at that price. Later on, Pitchford clarified his statement by toning down his initial comments.
In simple terms, “Borderlands 4” is set to launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and computers on September 12. A version for the Nintendo Switch 2 will become available at a future date.
