Gearbox Software, the developers behind Borderlands 4, have shared their post-release strategies for the game, which involve introducing fresh Vault Hunters. These new characters won’t come at no cost; instead, they will be incorporated into the game via the $130 Super Deluxe Edition. As of now, Gearbox hasn’t disclosed whether these new characters can be bought individually, but it seems possible that Story Packs or an upgrade could be purchased for either the standard or deluxe version of Borderlands 4.
Beyond introducing additional Vault Hunters in the new Story Packs, they’ll also introduce a completely fresh area within Kairos with extended story elements, as mentioned in their blog post. This expansion will include additional quests and side missions, along with various cosmetic items and Bounty Packs. These latter packs will offer “more targeted content” tailored for the players.
Each Bounty Pack offers a fresh adventure area complete with new missions, a distinctive boss battle, loot, an exclusive Digirunner vehicle tailored to your character, and a Vault Card packed with its own collection of rewards for achieving specific objectives. These Bounty Packs are part of the Deluxe and Super Deluxe versions of the game.
As a dedicated gamer, I’ve been hooked on the mainline Borderlands series for quite some time now. Over the course of its releases, these games have dished out four thrilling post-launch expansions that kept me coming back for more. The first Borderlands game gave us the lovable Moxxi in Underdome Riot, which quickly became a fan favorite. From there, Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep in Borderlands 2 received rave reviews, and Borderlands 3 brought the infamous villain Handsome Jack back into the picture, albeit in a different form, for an action-packed heist storyline.
In the Borderlands series, it’s not uncommon for new Vault Hunter characters like Gaige, Krieg, Timothy (Handsome Jack’s doppelganger), and Aurelia to be released as downloadable content or preorder bonuses following the game launch. However, in contrast, all four playable Vault Hunters in Borderlands 3 were available at launch, with no additional characters introduced as post-launch DLC.
In addition to Borderlands 3, numerous free downloadable content (DLC) updates were introduced over time, one of which was a block-shifting puzzle game instrumental in organizing data for real-world scientists. This project attracted millions of participants who, as a result, were acknowledged as scientific contributors. Now, Borderlands 4 is scheduled to release on September 12 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and the upcoming Switch 2. In anticipation of its launch, Gearbox has been revealing additional insights about the game.
Previously, we’ve glimpsed several major cooperative modifications that Gearbox has been developing. Fresh insights regarding the upcoming Vault Hunters have been disclosed, and the looting mechanism has undergone a significant revamp as well.
