For those who have followed the Borderlands series for a while, they may appreciate an update that allows them to turn off the chatty robot character Claptrap. Fortunately, it seems this request has been granted in Borderlands 4 as one of its improvements.
During a recent livestream (thanks to Chadly99 on X), it’s been unveiled that in Borderlands 4, you’ll find a unique “Claptrap volume” control in the game settings. This nifty feature allows you to silence the chatty service droid, Claptrap. But don’t worry, monsters won’t be getting this luxury – they’ll still have to listen to his motor-mouthed ramblings! As for us, passionate fans, we’ll likely crank that volume up to 200%!

Winkler playfully hinted that he penned some dialogue specifically tailored to this game’s feature, featuring what could arguably be the most obscure, specialized reference to a distinctive, less-than-favorable accent from a well-known immersive simulation. He implied that it might be best to bypass that audio option during your initial playthrough of the game.
From the very start, Claptrap has been a constant presence in the Borderlands series, appearing in every game up until now. This small robot, unfortunately, is the sole survivor of his kind, as Handsome Jack wiped out the entire Claptrap production line at the conclusion of The Claptastic Voyage in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. Left for dead, Claptrap was revived by Shadowtrap, a dark subroutine within him, which ultimately sacrificed itself to bring him back to life. Before the events of Borderlands 2, Sir Hammerlock found and mended him – an action that the hunter has deeply regretted ever since.
In other updates about Borderlands 4, additional insights have been given on the expansive world players will delve into. Unlike Borderlands 3’s multiple planets separated by long load times, the world of Kairos is designed as one vast open-ended playground brimming with mystery, hazards, and riches. A fresh story trailer for the game hinted at the looming danger of the Timekeeper and his associates, while enthusiasts of character customization can look forward to a multitude of possibilities in Borderlands 4 to create a Vault Hunter tailored to their unique playstyle.
In a nutshell, Borderlands 4 will make its debut on September 12 across platforms such as PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. It is also scheduled for release on Nintendo Switch 2 at a later date.
