Netflix has announced that Bridgerton will be back for seasons five and six, even before the fourth season premieres. To commemorate this exciting news, Netflix has released a special announcement from Lady Whistledown’s Society Papers. “Few occasions allow me to share such delightful tidings,” it states. “With great joy, I am honored to announce that Bridgerton will return for seasons five and six. So, celebrate fittingly!

The upcoming fourth season of the show, set to air in 2026, will focus on the romantic tale between Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson), the second eldest son of the Bridgertons, and a mystery woman named Sophie Beckett (Yerin Ha). Meanwhile, the love stories of sisters Eloise (Claudia Jessie) and Francesca Bridgerton (Hannah Dodd) will be featured in seasons five and six. Interestingly, the TV adaptation has altered Francesca’s storyline; whereas in the books she falls for her husband’s cousin Michael Stirling, the show introduces a character named Michaela Stirling (Masali Baduza). It remains to be seen if the series will maintain the same sequence as the original Julia Quinn novels. Earlier, the show rearranged books three and four, with the friendship-turned-love story between Penelope (Nicola Coughlin) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) being highlighted in the third season instead of the fourth. Will viewers have to wait until season six for a mainline queer narrative? As we speak, Shonda Rhimes is busy writing new stories.
