As a diehard fan of Blue Lock who has been eagerly waiting for its second season since what feels like eternity, I must admit that I’m utterly disheartened by the current state of the animation. Having grown up on classics like Dragon Ball Z and One Piece, I’ve become accustomed to breathtaking action sequences and captivating storytelling.
In the fall of 2024, the eagerly awaited comeback of the sports anime Blue Lock took place, however, it’s been receiving criticism for poor quality animation.
Blue Lock is an exceptionally well-received manga focused on soccer, and it has also sparked a successful animated series based on sports. The name of this series originates from a tactic conceived by soccer legend Ego Jinpachi, who aims to develop the ultimate forward player in the world.
The anime centers on the character Isagi, as audiences catch up on his exploits following his enrollment in the project, under the guidance of Ego. In this second installment, they’re adapting chapters 109 to 151 β representing the Blue Lock vs Japan U-20 game and wrapping up the Third Selection Arc that was introduced in the prior season.
Viewers eagerly anticipated the comeback of the anime for more than a year, yet they were let down greatly due to the subpar quality of the animation.

As an avid fan, I can’t help but express my disappointment over the animation quality. Some fellow enthusiasts have pointed out that it resembles a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation, with one fan even stating, “It feels like watching a Microsoft PowerPoint slideshow.
Though it appears motionless, they ensure each static image is aesthetically pleasing,” says someone else.
Another individual exclaims, “Almost brought a tear to my eye, the PowerPoint effects are mind-blowing. If I were as passionate about Blue Lock as that, I’d be in disarray.
As an ardent admirer, I’m thrilled about the upcoming Blue Lock Season 2, which promises 14 captivating episodes! However, the initial two installments have garnered some criticism, despite the visually appealing frames. The action seems to be static at times, a stark departure from the fluid sequences that graced the first season.
The show is produced by Studio 8bit, which also created the widely acclaimed Isekai anime “That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime.
