As a devoted fan of Bleach, I find myself consistently in awe of the rich tapestry of characters that have graced our screens over the years. Amongst these, Jushiro Ukitake, the serene and enigmatic captain of Squad 13, stands out as one of my personal favorites. His tragic backstory, profound wisdom, and unique fighting style have always captivated me.

In Bleach’s Thousand-Year Blood War Arc Part 3, the battle against Yhwach takes center stage, but voice actor Hideo Ishikawa expresses his deepest regret concerning this anime.

In Bleach TYBW Part 3, we say goodbye to Captain Jushiro Ukitake from Squad 13. After the demise of the Soul King, the three realms are teetering on the edge of annihilation. Not just his presence binds these realms together, but he also controls the movement of souls into and out of Soul Society, ensuring a steady flow.

Consequently, his demise could lead to an unprecedented upheaval across the world. As the Soul Society descends into turmoil, Ukitake bravely assumes the role of acting Soul King. He sacrifices himself during the Kamikake ritual, providing a brief respite of ten minutes for the Soul Society to regain stability.

During an interview with Oricon, Hideo Ishikawa, Ukitake’s voice actor, expressed his biggest regret about the anime: “Ukitake is the only captain among the current Gotei 13 who hasn’t used bankai yet,” he said. “I couldn’t help but wish I could say ‘bankai’ at least once (laughs). I’ve heard so many ‘bankais’ while dubbing and watching the anime. And Morita, how many times have I heard ‘bankai’ from you (laughs)! It made me quite envious.

When Ukitake was just three years old, he contracted a deadly lung illness. In an attempt to save his life, his parents visited the shrine of Mimihagi, the Soul King’s right-hand figure, and pleaded for him to remove Ukitake’s lungs. Amazingly, Mimihagi granted their request, which miraculously allowed Ukitake to live on. What’s more, he went on to become a Soul Reaper.

It seems he had sufficient power to earn the title of Squad Captain. This suggests that he should have been skilled enough to invoke his Bankai. Regrettably, the show never disclosed what his Bankai was, leaving his voice actor without the opportunity to say “Bankai.

Because of its immense power, most Bankais are highly anticipated and typically lead to intense battles. Yet, we’ve only witnessed Ukitake’s Shikai form, the twin blades named Sōgyo no Kotowari.
