At the debut of “Another Simple Favor” during South by Southwest, Blake Lively made her first public appearance since her legal dispute with Justin Baldoni commenced in December.
She expressed her deep affection for this character, stating it might be the best role she’s had the privilege to perform. During a talk at Austin’s Paramount Theater following a screening, she added that when Paul requested their return, she felt incredibly thrilled.
Despite no mention of the Baldoni controversy, it was apparent that Lively had backing from her co-workers. Before the movie’s premiere, director Paul Feig praised Lively to EbMaster, stating she is “an outstanding collaborator,” and further commented that “each movie star has ideas about their performance; I haven’t encountered one who doesn’t want to refine and enhance their work. That’s our creative process. I appreciate that Blake approaches her roles in this manner.” Lively opted out of interviews on the red carpet, but did pause to acknowledge fans.
Although a lone protester against Baldoni stood outside during the premiere with a shirt reading “Blake Lied,” Lively was given a warm reception at SXSW. Anticipation and buzz filled the auditorium as she walked to her seat, escorted by two bodyguards and two publicists, Leslie Sloane and Jami Kandel of Vision PR. The crowd broke into applause and cheers whenever Lively’s name was spoken in the movie’s introduction, and they cheered even louder when she first appeared on screen, exclaiming “Boo!
In the opening scene of “Another Simple Favor”, Lively’s character, Emily (who was imprisoned for murder in 2018’s film “A Simple Favor”), seemed strangely prophetic due to her legal predicament. She warned Anna Kendrick’s character against publishing a book about her and hinted at the possibility of a lawsuit. Additionally, she told a police officer played by Bashir Salahuddin to anticipate receiving a subpoena for alleged evidence mishandling in her case.
At SXSW, Lively made her second public appearance since her dispute with her “It Ends With Us” director and co-star. She’s currently involved in a lawsuit against Baldoni for sexual harassment and defamation, while Baldoni has countersued her and Ryan Reynolds, her husband, for defamation. Lively last appeared in public at the “Saturday Night Live” 50th anniversary special in February, where she walked the red carpet with Reynolds. During the show, Reynolds made a light reference to the ongoing lawsuits in a cameo appearance.
