Great news for fans! The director recently shared at a Deadline event that development on Black Panther 3 is progressing quickly, hinting that we might return to Wakanda sooner than expected.
Though Ryan Coogler hasn’t revealed much about the story, he recently confirmed to Deadline that he’s already started working on the next Black Panther movie, following the success of his film Sinners. It will be his next project.
“We’re working on it. We’re working hard. It’s next […] Yeah, it’s the next movie.”
Ryan Coogler directed the first Black Panther movie in 2018, following the character’s introduction in Captain America: Civil War by The Russo Brothers. Starring the late Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa, the film was a massive success, earning $1.3 billion globally and receiving seven Academy Award nominations, including one for Best Picture.
After Chadwick Boseman’s death on August 28, 2020, the sequel to Black Panther, titled Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, incorporated this real-life tragedy into the story. The film features T’Challa’s sister, Shuri, stepping into the role of Black Panther while dealing with the loss of her brother. Like the first Black Panther movie, Wakanda Forever received positive reviews and earned $859.2 million globally, earning five Academy Award nominations. Therefore, it’s safe to say Ryan Coogler faces enormous pressure with Black Panther 3.
Denzel Washington Will Join the MCU in ‘Black Panther 3’

Paramount
To keep the incredibly popular Marvel Cinematic Universe going strong, a major Hollywood star is joining the team. Last year, it was announced that Academy Award winner Denzel Washington will appear in Black Panther 3. While his specific role hasn’t been shared, the actor recently mentioned he’ll be part of the superhero film.
I’m not sure how many movies I have left in me, likely not a huge number. I’m eager to try new things. I’ve played Othello twice, once when I was 22 and again now at 70. I’m also going to play Hannibal. Then I’m working on a project with Steve McQueen, and Ryan Coogler is writing a role for me in the next Black Panther movie. After that, I plan to revisit Othello and then take on King Lear, and finally, I’ll retire.
Director Ryan Coogler has expressed his strong desire to collaborate with Denzel Washington on a Marvel project. He’s hopeful they can work together and intends to include Washington in the film if the actor is interested. Coogler considers Washington a legend and a valuable mentor to many in the industry, emphasizing his commitment to supporting emerging talent.
