Black Ops 6's Nuketown Is Updated Version Of Original, Lots Of People Have Never Played It

As a seasoned gamer with decades of Call of Duty under my belt, hearing about the return of the original Nuketown in Black Ops 6 brings back nostalgic memories that have been etched deep into my gaming psyche. The first time I stepped foot onto this iconic map was during the early days of the original Black Ops, and it quickly became one of my all-time favorites due to its fast-paced, chaotic action.

Approximately a significant number of Call of Duty gamers haven’t had the chance to experience one of the franchise’s iconic maps, Nuketown, originally. This fact contributes to level designer Adam Hoggatt’s enthusiasm about its return in Black Ops 6 this coming November.

In an interview with IGN, Hoggatt shared that the version of Nuketown in Black Ops 6 will be a remastered, visually enhanced version of the original map. Over the years, the Black Ops series has seen various versions of Nuketown, from a futuristic take in Black Ops III, but for Black Ops 6, they’re returning to the map’s roots.

He mentioned, “The initial version holds a unique spot in my emotions. It struck me lately that likely many of our gamers haven’t played the first one. That’s why I’m thrilled with Black Ops 6 because we can essentially revisit the original Nuketown and recapture the enchantment of the initial version, but this time with an improved appearance.

Hoggatt discussed that Nuketown wasn’t originally designed as a production map for Black Ops 2010, but rather an in-studio trial to imagine what a compact map could look like within a nuclear test site setting. The team found it appealing and ever since, it has remained one of the most beloved maps in the entire Call of Duty series across various sub-brands.

In Black Ops 6, Nuketown won’t initially be one of the 16 launch maps, but it will be added to the game for free as DLC on November 1st. Some fans had speculated that the in-game Nuketown for Black Ops 6 might be set in the ’90s like the game’s campaign, however this is not the case. Instead, we’ll see the classic, 1950s version of Nuketown. If the layout remains similar, players can anticipate quick and intense gameplay.

In Black Ops 6, there’s a Strike map named Warhead situated within the Nuketown district, but unlike its predecessors, it is set in the wake of a bomb test explosion. Consequently, the buildings have been engulfed by the sandy expanse of the desert, with remnants and debris littering the area.

In Warzone too, there are links to Nuketown, since their latest map, named Area 99, is the very same place where Nuketown originated.
