Black Ops 6 propels CoD to highest Steam player count in 2024

As a long-time Call of Duty fanatic who’s seen the highs and lows of this iconic franchise, it’s a breath of fresh air to see Black Ops 6 taking the community by storm. After years of dwindling player numbers and questionable releases, Treyarch has managed to bring back the magic that made CoD great in the first place.

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve been waiting for three long years to feel that old adrenaline rush from Call of Duty again. But the numbers were dwindling, and it seemed like the magic was fading. Then, finally, Black Ops 6 dropped, and on launch day, it brought back the thrill and excitement that made me fall in love with this game in the first place.

During its debut on Steam, Modern Warfare saw a peak of 190,273 simultaneous players, which fell regrettably below the previous title MW2’s record of 262,875. This significant decline triggered worries, but the roots of discontent were sown well before Modern Warfare 3 was even released.

By March 2023, the number of players for MW2 and Warzone 2 dropped significantly to an all-time low of 87,000. Some enthusiasts expressed concern that the franchise was veering off course, but Black Ops 6 managed to steer things back on track.

Initially, our BO6 review pointed out that the gameplay is more enjoyable than it’s ever been before, causing a surge of players to opt for Zombies mode instead of Multiplayer following exceptional feedback.

The high level of enthusiasm for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 was evident on Steam, as it attracted over 229,000 players – the largest number in more than a year.

On Steam, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has amassed an impressive player base of over 229,000, marking the highest number of players for a Call of Duty game on this platform in more than a year. Furthermore, its launch day surpassed Modern Warfare III’s peak player count of 190,000 during its debut on Steam.

BO6 didn’t manage to surpass the record set approximately two years ago by Call of Duty with around 491,000 simultaneous players, yet it’s still a positive stride, and fans were thrilled about this milestone.

“That’s what happens when Treyarch makes a good CoD,” one commenter responded.

“when you make good games goood things happen to you,” a second user added.

Beyond the enthusiastic responses toward Zombies, the Campaign was also praised extensively. Remarkably, in just 11 missions, Treyarch managed to incorporate an engrossing narrative within a concise gameplay experience.

Achieving ongoing success relies significantly on a robust post-release content strategy, as well as maintaining positive sentiments among fans once the initial excitement has subsided.

Call of Duty professionals Dashy and Shotzzy criticized the “poor” maps in BO6 series and asked for remasters of classic Black Ops maps. Treyarch confirmed that the well-known Black Ops 1 map, Nuketown, will be accurately redesigned for an upcoming update. However, it’s concerning that players are already dissatisfied with the current map collection.
