As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I’ve seen my fair share of camouflage unlock systems in Call of Duty games. The one in Black Ops 6 initially left me impressed; it was hailed as the “best ever” by many. However, after a few weeks, I find myself scratching my head at some design choices.

As an avid fan of Black Ops 6, I’ve got to say that there’s been a bit of a buzz among us lately about the new camo unlock system. Some of us are finding it a tad pointless to work towards unlocking camos, which is quite a shift from the “best ever” system we praised before. It seems like we need more clarity on this update to make the grind worthwhile again.

Upon the debut of Black Ops 6, Call of Duty enthusiasts have been thrilled by some old-school elements incorporated into the game. Although the omnimovement system is a fresh addition to the Call of Duty series, there are numerous nods to the past that create a sense of nostalgia.

Generally speaking, multiplayer has received a lot of positive feedback from fans. While I must admit that the maps could use some improvement, overall it surpasses the quality of the last few game titles. Additionally, the camouflage unlock system was met with high praise upon its release, with some gamers even labeling it as the best in Call of Duty history.

After some time had passed, the initial feeling about the matter seems to have changed slightly. User Professional_Wall725 on Reddit questioned, “Why did they believe restricting special camouflage patterns to guns that one has completed all military camouflage patterns on was a sound decision?

They argue that military camouflage becomes unnecessary when you would be using gold instead at that particular stage.

Other players have described the inability to utilize the unlocked camouflage as “foolish.” One player commented, “I’m not quite clear on why that feature is locked. Once I’ve unlocked the camo, I should be able to employ it.

Indeed, there’s little value in it. However, the pleasure I derive comes from using the camouflage during a game or two, and finishing off that gun’s unique feature.” Another commented.

As noted, fans praised the system early on because other games felt like a “misery” at times.

Some prefer returning to the method used in Modern Warfare 2 (2022) where earning one camouflage unlocks it across all weapons. They commented, “I appreciated the change in MW2 where using a variety of camouflages increases as you level up new weapons since earning one camo unlocks it for all guns.
