Black Ops 6 devs buffing Ninja perk as pros complain over footstep audio

As a long-time Call of Duty fan and a competitive player who has spent countless hours huddled around the map, evading enemy footsteps while trying to plant the bomb or defend the objective, I can’t help but feel a sense of relief and anticipation hearing about potential changes to the Ninja perk in Black Ops 6.

According to professional player Brandon ‘Dashy’ Otell, there may be an enhancement for the Ninja skill in Black Ops 6, as he claims to have received information about potential updates directly from a Treyarch team member.

In Black Ops 6, a Ninja character is designed to minimize the noise of your steps, allowing for stealthy maneuvers such as launching surprise attacks, infiltrating the opposing team’s base, and executing defuses without alerting your enemies.

In public games, having the Ninja Perk is nice, but in competitive play, it’s nearly indispensable, particularly in modes like Search and Destroy. This might lead professional players to feel annoyed when they can still hear opponents moving swiftly across the map, even while using Ninja.

In the November 16th episode of the OpTic podcast, it was proposed by Dashy that the Ninja perk might undergo changes, since Treyarch has expressed interest in reevaluating it.

As a die-hard fan, I shared instances where I felt the perk was malfunctioning with Treyarch’s design associate director, Matt Scronce. To my surprise, he acknowledged that although it isn’t absolutely silent, there are tweaks in store for it in the future.

It seems that Scronce may not have provided specific details about the changes, but from what I gather, it could imply an enhancement (or buff) to the perk aimed at improving the quality of the audio slightly.

It’s important to mention that many expert gamers customize their PC audio settings for enhanced footstep sounds, like Sound Equalization or Art of War audio. This means there might be differences in what they perceive compared to what an average gamer hears.

Regarding modifications Treyarch might make to the character Ninja, it’s uncertain exactly what alterations will occur; we’ll just have to wait and see.

It’s evident that the developers aim for Ninja not to be as quiet as it used to be in previous versions, but finding a balance that both suits them and satisfies players seems tricky.
