As a seasoned gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in the rich narratives of Call of Duty campaigns, I must admit that this latest announcement about Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 leaves me perplexed and slightly disheartened. The idea of needing an internet connection to play the single-player campaign, a mode traditionally enjoyed offline, is a departure from what we’ve come to expect and appreciate in the series.
It’s been disclosed that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 demands a constant internet connection for every game mode, even in the single-player storyline, which doesn’t involve any multiplayer aspects.
In simpler terms, players often find themselves immersed in the detailed storylines of Call of Duty campaigns initially, serving as a prelude to the main gaming experience. The widely-enjoyed Battle Royale mode, Warzone, and multiplayer aspects come into play later on.
This particularly applies to those who find the fast-paced online multiplayer experience overwhelming. However, they’re keen on experiencing some Call of Duty gameplay nonetheless.
Indeed, it’s now clear that playing the campaign for this game requires an internet connection, which has left some gamers puzzled by this decision.
Advisory: To play the campaign of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, you’ll need an internet connection on all platforms. On consoles, while an internet connection is required, you won’t need a subscription to PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game Pass Core.

On the Black Ops 6 editions webpage, Activision addressed the concern about online connectivity by stating: “Does each edition of Black Ops 6 require an internet connection to play?
In Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, we’re optimizing both the quality of visuals and the game’s storage footprint on your hard drive by implementing texture streaming in all gameplay modes. This means you’ll experience top-notch graphics while enjoying a smaller game download size.
In simpler terms, to enjoy any game mode, including the Campaign, you’ll require a consistent internet connection. If you’re using a console, it’s not necessary to have a premium subscription like Game Pass Core or PlayStation Plus to play the Campaign.
Beyond this issue, it’s worth noting that several gamers have voiced their discontent over not getting early access to the campaign in Black Ops 6, even though Modern Warfare 3 was available a week earlier for those who had pre-ordered.
It’s plausible that they decided to revert to the older methods due to this fact: Modern Warfare 3 received a considerable amount of criticism, making it the least favorably reviewed Call of Duty game ever, and much of this critique focused predominantly on the campaign.
On October 25th, Black Ops 6 will be released, offering players simultaneous access to its three gameplay modes: the Campaign, Multiplayer, and Zombies experience from the get-go.
