Black Myth: Wukong Is Steam's Most Popular Game Right Now, Beating CS 2, Dota 2, And Everything Else

As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming under my belt, I must admit that the hype surrounding Black Myth: Wukong is truly electrifying. With numbers like these, it’s hard not to be captivated by the game’s allure. However, being a global citizen who’s been around the block a few times, I can’t help but wonder if this popularity is more China-centric than global.

Black Myth: Wukong, a new game available on PC and PlayStation 5, has exploded in popularity since its release on Steam. With over 2 million simultaneous players, it has broken the records for peak concurrent players held by games such as Dota 2 (1.2 million) and Counter-Strike 2 (1.8 million), making it the most played game on Steam at this moment in terms of concurrent players.

Approaching the record for most concurrent players in Palworld (2.1 million) ever, but still falling short of the current record holder, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG), which boasted an incredible 3.2 million simultaneous players. It’s worth mentioning that games like Dota 2, Counter-Strike 2, and PUBG are free to play, whereas Black Myth carries a price tag of $60. Notably, Black Myth ranks as the top-selling game on Steam at this moment.

To what extent does interest in Black Myth: Wukong lean towards China? Quite significantly, as per @GameDiscoverCo’s latest data, approximately 88.1% of its Steam players are from China, while only 3% are from the U.S., and the remaining fraction is split between Hong Kong (1.6%) and Japan (1%).
