As a long-time fan of action-packed, mythical games, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming surprises from Black Myth: Wukong! Having followed this game since its early stages, it’s truly heartwarming to see it win Ultimate Game Of The Year at the Golden Joystick Awards. With a nomination for Game of the Year at The Game Awards still pending, I eagerly await the results and hope for a double victory for Wukong.
In a hint from the director of Black Myth: Wukong, Feng Ji, players can expect some additional “unanticipated delights” after the game’s victory at the Golden Joystick Awards.
In the year 2024, on November 21st, Black Myth: Wukong secured the prestigious “Ultimate Game Of The Year” award at the Golden Joystick Awards. Notably, this title was also shortlisted for “Game of the Year” at The Game Awards mere days prior.
Fans must hold their excitement until December 12 for the outcome, but Wukong’s director has been building anticipation by hinting at “exciting surprises” coming our way “before the end of the year.
Black Myth: Wukong dev teases end of year “surprises”
In his speech during the Golden Joystick Awards ceremony, Feng Ji, the game’s director, acknowledged the audience (fans) for their continued support of our game.
He said, “It’s your consistent faith and backing that have been instrumental in helping us conquer every obstacle and adversity, enabling us to reach this unexplored land for the first time.
As eager PS5 enthusiasts countdown the days to its much-awaited physical release on December 12th, Feng Ji also shared a thrilling update for Wukong fans. “Indeed, if you’ve already finished our game, that’s perfectly fine! Continue following us, and there might be some delightful surprises in store for you later this year.

It’s still unclear what these “surprises” might entail, but it has been confirmed by CEO Daniel Wu (of Hero Games) in an interview with Bloomberg that Black Myth: Wukong will indeed be getting an update or expansion. The development team is currently working on this project.
Nevertheless, no formal declaration has been made regarding when the content will become available. China-based games consultant and journalist Daniel Camilo asserted on September 14, 2024, that he had “very reliable first-hand sources” who suggested the DLC would be launched around Chinese New Year in 2025. This timing, as Camilo points out, would place the release at the end of January or slightly afterward.
Given this context, it’s likely that the “surprises” aren’t related to the forthcoming expansion. Rather, it seems possible that the game might receive fresh content as free cosmetic items instead.
Lately, Stellar Blade allowed players to acquire four cost-free outfits for Eve. Meanwhile, we’ll just have to keep an eye on what Feng Ji and his development crew are preparing next. Don’t forget to check out the latest news regarding DLC updates through our Black Myth: Wukong DLC center.
