As an old-timey adventurer with more scars than teeth, I’ve battled my fair share of giant crickets and other fantastical creatures. But this Feng-Tail General is a real doozy! You see, it hops away when you get close, which can be quite frustrating if you ain’t careful.
In the initial five sections of Black Myth: Wukong, the layout was a vast, predominantly linear setup with multiple branching paths. Some of these pathways were alternate primary routes, while others led to optional zones featuring non-essential bosses for the level’s completion. Players would gradually progress towards a major boss battle following extended periods of exploration and combat within the level.
In Chapter 6 of Black Myth: Wukong, the design concept transforms significantly. After acquiring the flying nimbus – a cloud mount that your character can only traverse freely for this particular chapter – the game format expands into an expansive open-world setting. However, since there’s no map within the game, navigating through this spacious area can be tricky because it isn’t always clear how to progress once you enter the open-world section.
In this tutorial, we’ll be concentrating on locating the crucial bosses that award a mythic-quality item from Wukong’s gear collection upon defeat. While there are additional optional bosses to discover, this guide will primarily zero in on the primary targets.
Obtain the Flying Nimbus from the Supreme Celestial Inspector Boss
As you embark on Chapter 6, follow a continuous path through the levels until you reach the Foothills – Verdant Path Shrine. Beyond that lies an open area where a challenging battle against the Supreme Celestian Inspector awaits. Don’t worry, though, it may be tough but it’s not insurmountable. Once defeated, your character will acquire the ability to fly in this chapter, using a cloud as their mode of transportation – the flying nimbus. Keep moving forward until you reach the expansive open world. Your UI won’t provide any mission markers, but rest assured, we’ve got you covered and will guide you through your mission.
Head toward where the Lightning Bolts are Striking
Beyond the tranquil vistas, the rumble of thunder echoes across this expansive environment. Turning slightly to your right reveals distant flashes of lightning. The locations you’ll initially aim for are the landmasses where those lightning strikes occur. Following the lightning’s path will guide you to two distinct open spaces, each housing a solitary boss. These adversaries are the Gold Armored Rhino and the Agile Deer with Cloudtreading abilities.
Once more, these supervisors possess some annoying traits, yet they aren’t overly challenging after you understand their habits and take advantage of their vulnerabilities. You can find them at the Rhino Watch Slope Shrine and Deer Sight Forest Shrine. After defeating both, you will obtain two rare Mythic-level items that once belonged to Wukong.
What to do with that Giant Cricket that’s been Hopping Around
Here comes the challenging part: Once you manage to overcome both the rhino and deer bosses, the lightning attacks will cease. From there, it’s on you to decide what’s next. You’ve only got a rideable cloud, an expansive open-world landscape, and a rather big cricket that hops about aimlessly at your disposal. Chances are, you’ve already met this creature during your journeys to the bosses’ locations.
The upcoming opponent you need to conquer is called Feng-Tail General, but unlike regular fights, you can’t approach it directly or engage in a conventional battle. If you try to get near it, there’s nothing you can do and it simply jumps away. What makes it different?
In this battle against Feng-Tail General, the enormous cricket, jump off your nimbus and land on its back. Aim your targeting cursor towards its antennae. Once you’re holding onto its antennae, you will see an on-screen prompt instructing you to hang on as it jumps about 3-4 times, depleting your Stamina. If you can’t hold on during this stamina challenge, use a quick-fix item to temporarily boost your maximum stamina.
After clearing this hurdle, grab Feng-Tail General’s antennae once more. This time around, you’ll ignite both your protagonist and the colossal cricket; their health points will start draining quickly. If your character perishes in the process, it indicates that your HP is insufficient to progress through this stage of the battle.
If you do not have enough HP, here are some solutions worth looking into:
- re-spec your Spark points to fully increase your maximum HP
- use a consumable that increases your maximum HP temporarily
- use a consumable that raises your Burn Resistance to severely slow down the rate that your HP is drained
If you successfully surpass the health check during the battle, the game will spontaneously switch to a cutscene depicting the defeat of Feng-Tail General. As a reward for your victory, you’ll receive an additional item from Wukong’s equipment collection.
Go make your way to the Mantis-Catching Swamp Shrine
It’s quite possible that you’ve already triggered the Mantis-Catching Swamp Shrine while battling the giant cricket. If not, you can find it in the watery areas on the left side of the open-world region as you enter from the Verdant Path Shrine, where the initial boss fight with the Supreme Celestial Inspector took place.
A significant moment unfolds showing you’re on the correct track. While we won’t reveal the details, you’ll soon engage in combat with your upcoming primary foe. Break a leg! Following this encounter, Wukong’s 4th armor piece will become yours. Just one more destination remains!
After getting Wukong’s Four Armor Pieces, go to Water Curtain Cave
After overcoming four bosses in the open-world region, you will soon obtain Wukong’s legendary staff. To find it, make your way to the heart of Water Curtain Cave. If you haven’t already discovered it, teleport to Mantis-Catching Swamp instead. The location is just a bit further, past the shrine’s small nook on a raised section of land. The cave can be found beyond a waterfall, then another rocky archway.
Follow the trail situated at the back of the waterfall, view the scene that unfolds, and the route leading to the climactic confrontation should become apparent. Your odyssey nears its end; persevere and we trust our guidance has made your path more visible!
