The HBO original two-part documentary titled “Billy Joel: And So It Goes” is set to open the 2025 Tribeca Festival. This announcement was made during a live event at the NAB Show’s Entertainment Business Show, where Jane Rosenthal, CEO and co-founder of Tribeca Festival, unveiled the opening night programming.
For almost 25 years, the Tribeca Festival has been acknowledging the artists that breathe life and character into New York City. On the first night of the 2025 Festival, we are delighted to bestow an honor upon Billy Joel – an artist who truly embodies this unique spirit. Recognizing the iconic performer known for embodying a ‘New York State of Mind’ provides a fitting start to this year’s festivities, which celebrate creativity and inspiration.
The Tribeca Festival, held in New York City from June 4th to the 15th this year, offers an array of films, music performances, TV shows, audiobook storytelling, live discussions, games, and immersive experiences. Kicking off on Wednesday, June 4th, is “Billy Joel: And So It Goes,” a film that provides a comprehensive look at the life and music of Billy Joel, delving into the love, loss, and personal hardships that inspire his songwriting, as stated in a press release.
Through unique access to unseen concerts, home videos, and private photos, coupled with comprehensive, intimate one-on-one conversations, this documentary delves deep into the life and career of Joel, whose music remains timeless across generations.
As a movie critic, I’m excited to share my thoughts on “Billy Joel: And So It Goes,” a film co-directed and produced by the talented duo Jessica Levin and Susan Lacy. We couldn’t be more elated that our work is opening at the prestigious Tribeca Festival. A big thank you goes out to Jane Rosenthal and her team, as well as HBO and their amazing staff for their continued support in helping us create an intimate, truthful, and musically rich portrayal of this multi-faceted artist.
After its premiere at Tribeca, the film “Billy Joel: And So It Goes” is set to air on HBO and become streamable on Max this summer. The entire lineup for the 2025 Tribeca Festival will be revealed shortly.
