After spending a decade portraying Chad DiMera on the television series “Days of Our Lives” on NBC, actor Billy Flynn is now moving on to CBS’ “The Young and the Restless,” where his new character remains undisclosed. He attributes much of his personal and professional development over these years to this show, which he fondly refers to as “the little engine that could.
As a dedicated film enthusiast, I’m always striving to deliver my best, despite the challenges we’ve encountered as a production team. One aspect of this new project I’m particularly thrilled about is the slower pace, allowing us more time to bring each scene to life. However, I was forged like a battle-hardened warrior in the fast-paced environment of previous productions, which are over nine months ahead of airtime. This swift tempo shaped me into the actor and individual I am today, but there’s a distinct rhythm here that’s pushing me to adapt and grow even further.
The motivation behind the relocation is straightforward: actors have a deep passion for acting, yet occasionally they feel compelled to explore something fresh and different.
He expresses his passion for acting and storytelling, stating he never thought he’d only tell one tale throughout his career. The fact that ten years have flown by leaves him astounded. He wasn’t a youngster when he began here; he was 30. His acting career didn’t start until he was 26. Time has passed quickly, he feels. With this character, he believes he’s explored all possibilities. He’s eager to embark on a new adventure and narrate another tale. In essence, it’s as straightforward as that: he’s moving on to tell a different story.
Throughout his stint on the show, Chad has grown from a boy into a man and has remained committed to doing what’s right, despite being Stefano DiMera’s illegitimate son, one of the series’ most infamous villains. The actor playing Chad, Billy, has poured an exceptional amount of himself into this role, stating that he felt compelled to fully explore the character’s journey. Coincidentally, during challenging periods in his personal life, Chad was also experiencing similar hardships, such as losing a spouse, which mirrored Billy’s own losses. This parallel between their stories allowed Billy to infuse more of his real-life experiences into Chad’s character. There were even moments that felt like a tribute to his personal journey, making the portrayal unique and meaningful in that way.
Due to various factors, Flynn finds the decision a mix of joy and sadness. At the time, he was residing on a 25-foot sailboat and had no money at all when he landed the “Days” role. Since accepting this job, he has gotten married, welcomed two children, purchased a house. In essence, it has drastically altered his life. The colleagues he works with have become close friends; they’ve shared both good times and bad since he began this job, standing by him through it all.
Additionally, it’s not only those he’s collaborated with on “Days,” but also the dedicated and faithful fans he’s encountered throughout his journey, who have offered their support and loyalty since the very beginning.
He expresses his gratitude for the flood of well-wishes and affection he’s received since his recent reveal, stating it has been a humbling experience. This heartfelt response has deeply touched him, and he intends to carry this positive energy with him. He encourages fans to keep tuning in to ‘Days’ and supporting the show, as well as any potential newcomer who might assume the role of Chad in the future. He hopes they continue to shower love on the character, just as they did for him. Lastly, he invites them along on his personal journey and asks for their continued support during this time.
Due to the “Days” filming schedule, it’s expected that Flynn will portray Chad in 2026, simultaneously appearing on “Y&R.
He points out that, ideally, it wouldn’t be a problem, but because he needs the audience to set aside their doubts and accept his roles convincingly, it becomes challenging when they see him playing multiple characters simultaneously on different shows.
Josh Griffith, executive producer and headwriter for “The Young and the Restless,” expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming arrival of Billy on the show. He believes that Billy will significantly enhance the already impressive cast of “The Young and the Restless.
Flynn expressed, “Josh penned some fantastic content for me, particularly concerning the Necktie Killer and the blossoming romance of Chad and Abigail during my rule. I believe he’ll continue to create such quality work with this upcoming character on ‘Y&R’. Essentially, I’m just coming along for the ride. Fortunately, there are numerous gifted individuals there who I can hitch a ride with, much like how I did here at ‘Days’.
